Why are sea lions teeth black?
Sea lions teeth are black or dark brown. Sea lions do not have enamel on their teeth like us. Instead, they have a natural bacteria that builds up when they are young and helps protect the teeth.
Symbiotically, the bacteria living in their mouths cleanse their mouths and the sea lion provides them with an environment to live in.

I am happy to say that the Felimazole appears to be working. Milu is no longer running around the house like she has a rocket up her backside and at her last visit to the vet had put on a whole gramme! Her next check up is 21 September so hopefully all will be good then.
We have a public holiday on Monday so it is a nice long weekend. We are visiting an old castle the other side of Salisbury tomorrow which is something to look forward to.
Happy Furry Friday!
Wishing everyone a weekend of doing something different
Getting excited for monsoon season again. Time to take that jeep in for her annual check up. I wonder how many times I'll get stuck this year. Maybe another 11 mile hike in the desert? Or perhaps dime sized hail that feels like it might break your windshield? Adventure awaits.
Within two days of the tragedy of loosing both chicks to predators, the Northern Flicker couple started expanding a natural cavity in another Weeping Willow Tree farther along the path.
This shot was taken two weeks later. The female taking a break from laying or sitting a new batch of eggs.
This morning, a week after this shot, I went back to check up on them, and the egg sitting is continuing. The Northwestern Crows that were in a nest nearby have fledged and are not an obvious presence as they once were.
Whether because this new nest site is closer to the ground and in a more exposed site, or because of the failure of the previous batch, they seem to be more reticent than usual. I have been giving them their space, and wish them well for their second attempt.

We visited a beautiful privately owned garden near Bournemouth today. We remembered visiting years ago and Phill posed with these statues so I got him to do it again. Checking up when we returned home, I found the last visit was back in 2009! See below for the photo taken then
Yesterday Bastian had his annual check up and vaccination. Our vet likes him a lot, but advised to cut down on the food. Bastian did not agree... ;)

The Painted Turtles in Algonquin take their name seriously......they are literally "painted"
"Every spring, researchers living at the Algonquin Wildlife Research Station gather up the turtles from study sites in Algonquin Provincial Park and bring them in for their annual ‘check-up.’ Each turtle is carefully weighed and measured, looked over for body condition, and lastly, Painted Turtles have their unique shell notches transcribed as painted numbers on their shells before being released back to their home.
Summer 2021 marks the fiftieth year of this study—the longest, continuous study of freshwater turtles in the world."
Eva running around this beautiful maze made of amazing glasses that changes color every few seconds. She knew she would get lost if she roamed around on her own as she had a few scares when she couldn't see me but that did not stop her from running around but she was careful not to miss me as she would take a peek after every turn to make sure am right behind her and not lost in photography. I captured this as she made the next turn knowing full well her eyes will look for me :)
So much to do and no time to Play on flickr.
I'm so sorry you guys, I've been so busy and I haven't had the time to check up on your new stuff! I feel really bad but I'll be there as soon as possible! :)

This winter has been one of our most disruptive for many a year in Cornwall and has been reflected by the sparse and poor numbers of primroses daffodils and bluebells coupled with the fact when they do appear it is for a very short period of time only.
So as we are well into May I thought it would be an idea to see how the thrift were fairing on some of our clifftops.
After a couple of unsuccessful evenings I found these little chaps being blown to bits at Bedruthan Steps.
This really was a challenge to hold on to my 3 legged friend and get enough shutter speed so the thrift were not a complete blur, even in May this was a warm coat, hat and gloves job, so is it any wonder our species of flowers have only been putting in brief appearances and at times not to be seen at all.
On the far headland sweeping to the right can be seen Newquay which has some beautiful beaches, also it is well known for its nightlife in the various pubs and clubs, not a venture for the faint hearted.
Note to oneself: just read this back and it reads quite sensible, might be time for a check up from the neck up Bri.🤔
Thank you all so much for the time you take in viewing my photographs,
Your comments and favs are always so appreciated😇🐎😎
Part of the 52 Weeks of 2016
Week 27
Tabletop Photography
This week's challenge was to shoot something on a tabletop, ie product photography. Since I'd done the high-key white background style 2 weeks ago, I decided to try the black background, reflective surface style here. But there was no reason I couldn't have a little fun with it. So out came the Lego figures.
It's also a small farewell to my 60D which went onwards to it's new owner the day after shooting this.

Friday night we met Charlie and Lucy, our daugter´s cats. They were fine. Lucy´s blood work wasn´t so good lately, now she has to take more cortisone and has to go to another check up in the next time. We were glad to find her quite well and happily purring.
There are some new boxes that both cats do like to sit in.
I didn´t take a shot of Lucy as the flash light would bother her.
