Meet one of five owlets in a wild Great Horned Owl family raised on Saanich Peninsula private property.
This little one fell out of the nest way too early and needed a bit of help. Our local raptor rescuers strung up a basket in a tree next to the nest tree; the nest being too far up and awkward to reach, in order to get this owlet off the ground.
What followed were subsequent visits to make sure the parents were still caring for this unfortunate one. All went well.
Being acquainted with the rescuers, I was invited along on the last check up inspection, after all five owlets had fledged.

A cluster of red poppies bloom every year in our neighborhood. Knowing how fragile the flowers are, I find myself returning regularly to check up on the blooms. During this visit, I made sure to capture a few photos. The fragile petals have started to drift to the ground....and soon I'll only have these wonderful memories of such incredible beauty.
Going back home for a little vacation...things to do...people to see......
I shall try to get on here a few times to check up on you ALL.......
Be good ...be safe...be creative.....be well....just be you......
See ya soon my friends xox
I was delighted to find this Wilson's Snipe at this spot at Westchester Lagoon. I hadn't seen one in this particular area - a bit closer than I usually see them, so I set up and photographed this one for a bit. It was one of those wonderful sunny days and a delight to be out and about checking up on my feathered friends.
Taken 30 September 2017.

Taking the dogs to the vets soon so I’m in a rush to post this photo I did last night. It’s only the dogs annual check up but it’s starting to be a thing. They are both getting on now with Toby 16 and Oscar 13 and they are starting show their age. It was worth waiting for a bit of light on this holly bush on a recent ascent before and carried on panting to the top, I needed a breather anyway.
Jager's mission in her life is to please me. She is always on high alert - even when she is sleeping. If I sneeze, it doesn't matter where I am she has to come and check up on me and make sure I am good. She is always attentive.
A few days ago, she was laying on the Ottoman. I asked her if she wanted dad to throw the ball for her. She sat up hanging onto every word, waiting. I told her she had to get the ball first. I explained to her she had to go to where we kept the ball and then take it to dad.I watched as she processed this giving me the head tilt. This was the first time I have tested her. At my command she got off the Ottoman and went to the front door to a bench. She sat and I got up and lifted the lid. She retrieved the ball and went out to the deck where dad was and dropped the ball at his feet! I was incredulous.
German Shepherds are extremely intelligent. I know we haven't even scratched the surface.
When we took Milu to the vet for her check up last week, she only weighed 2.2 kilos. The vet increased her thyroid meds again. As it is we manage her day by day and at the moment she is happy and engaging with us: she even came out into the garden today (ok there was food involved as we were having lunch - lol). She did go off her food a little last week but this week she has been tucking in to tuna and fresh chicken and I actually think she may have put on a little weight. The photo is a little fuzzy as she kept moving, but I love seeing her pretty little face
Yesterday we all drove to Traverse City for Dave’s 6 week post op doctor check up for his knee replacement. Everything is coming along good. We stopped near Elk Rapids (Birch Lake) and had take out lunch.
"It's been a long day
I can't seem to get up again
I want to fall asleep
So I don't have to remember!
Don't have to call me, I turned my phone off
Let the pillows to protect my heart
You don't have to check up on me, I'll be alright
I turned off the lights and sweep into the night
I keep falling
I keep falling, uh
I keep falling apart!
I keep falling (falling)
I keep falling (falling)
I keep falling (falling)
I keep falling for you!
I wanna forget
All this burden in my past
I want to fall asleep
So I don't have to remember!" - Yuna ♫

Sethi spends the day on the sofa. Outside it's very windy and the weather seems to change every few minutes. Better to stay at home and do what cats do best. :)
Fynn is quite okay. After yesterday's dental surgery he is tired and sleeps a lot but the bleeding of the wounds has stopped. He is still drooling heavily but eats well and it doesn't seem to be too painful for him. The vet appointment for a check-up is next Monday provided that everything stays stable.

Tobia checking up the truffles he found.
He is a Lagotto Romagnolo dog.
This is the only breed of dog that is officially recognized as specialized in truffle hunting.
Yesterday Bastian had his annual check up and vaccination. Our vet likes him a lot, but advised to cut down on the food. Bastian did not agree... ;)

As we recover from a few rather wet few days from the tail end of Cyclone Debbie flicking her tail past our place, Miss W is going through her strange phase at present.
Once a year, she drives me nuts, seems to get clingy and whingy, no interest in food for a few days, then back to normal.
This coming week hopefully will be a check up.
For March project, "Bad Habits" for 12 Months for Dogs group.
Vet visit for these two today, check up etc and Evie has a small lump on lower eyelid which I wanted checking out, nothing sinister, wart type thing and leave alone unless it grows.
Olive was mental, think The Pointer Sisters song "I'm so exited" lol. Nothing as bad as a spaniel waiting nearby, zoomies and spinning like a loon 😂
Weighed in at 6.7kg for Olive and 24.kg for Evie, she's lost a few pounds since Olive arrived 😂 both fit and healthy 😊
They got treats off reception staff and came home 😊
That time of year is coming round again for Jonathans check up..
I take photos to keep my mind engaged :)
Eva running around this beautiful maze made of amazing glasses that changes color every few seconds. She knew she would get lost if she roamed around on her own as she had a few scares when she couldn't see me but that did not stop her from running around but she was careful not to miss me as she would take a peek after every turn to make sure am right behind her and not lost in photography. I captured this as she made the next turn knowing full well her eyes will look for me :)
Another leaf petal from the light colored poinsettia. The plant was covered with sparkles.
Captured with iPhone and Aukey x20 Macro lens.
Edited on the iPad. First standard image tuning in Snapseed Be sure to check up the new tools I played with the curves on this image.
And then again in Fotograf for black and white editing.
So it's been almost a month, nothing has changed!! It's still there looking sad and negleted - shame!

Week 27
Tabletop Photography
This week's challenge was to shoot something on a tabletop, ie product photography. Since I'd done the high-key white background style 2 weeks ago, I decided to try the black background, reflective surface style here. But there was no reason I couldn't have a little fun with it. So out came the Lego figures.
It's also a small farewell to my 60D which went onwards to it's new owner the day after shooting this.

This winter has been one of our most disruptive for many a year in Cornwall and has been reflected by the sparse and poor numbers of primroses daffodils and bluebells coupled with the fact when they do appear it is for a very short period of time only.
So as we are well into May I thought it would be an idea to see how the thrift were fairing on some of our clifftops.
After a couple of unsuccessful evenings I found these little chaps being blown to bits at Bedruthan Steps.
This really was a challenge to hold on to my 3 legged friend and get enough shutter speed so the thrift were not a complete blur, even in May this was a warm coat, hat and gloves job, so is it any wonder our species of flowers have only been putting in brief appearances and at times not to be seen at all.
On the far headland sweeping to the right can be seen Newquay which has some beautiful beaches, also it is well known for its nightlife in the various pubs and clubs, not a venture for the faint hearted.
Note to oneself: just read this back and it reads quite sensible, might be time for a check up from the neck up Bri.🤔
Thank you all so much for the time you take in viewing my photographs,
Your comments and favs are always so appreciated😇🐎😎
a month after her surgery the infection came back and with it the marble sized lump, so she had a second operation. my wife did not have the heart to tell me while i was away knowing how much i suffered the first time. She appears healthy now, if my wife did not tell me i never would have known. tommorow we go to the vet for a check up, i finally get to be their for my little girl.
Time for my annual physical. I have been cared for by Dr. G since I was around 20, I was a patient in one of his first years of practice and we have grown older together. I explained that I am working on a photo project, I told my Dr. I was going to set up my tripod to take a photo while I was waiting for him. He seemed surprised but didn't have a problem with it. When it was time for the breast exam and the nurse had to return to the room she was very uncomfortable with my camera being there and was surprised and confused at why I would want to take pictures there of all places. We all got a good laugh and she just shook her head when I left saying she'll never forget me. What a nice compliment!
(PS - I got lucky that the sun was hitting the exam table, light is key!)
