Grooming time for a pair of Mallards at Lake Cheam Wetlands Park. I managed to get a few images this morning in between the rain showers.

After 4 days of snow and NE winds causing almost blizzard conditions, we finally got a sunny day with nice blue sky - although the wind was still blowing the snow into higher drifts.

Had to get up early to take these photos, and in British Columbia it is dark at 7 a.m. I like the effect.

Deroche, BC Canada
The Cheam Range is a mountain range in the Fraser Valley region of the Lower Mainland of British Columbia near the city of Chilliwack. The region is also a part of the Skagit Range of the Canadian Cascades and contains many rugged peaks.
Deroche is a farming and railway community on the Canadian Pacific Railway and BC Highway 7 located approximately 100 km east of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Deroche is adjacent to the eastern end of Nicomen Island, from which it is separated by the Nicomen Slough (NB a different location 3 km away was known as Deroche Landing).
The community is at the foot of Nicomen Mountain and is immediately across the river from Chilliwack Mountain.
The original name of Deroche was Derocier, but the local CPR station was given the current name to honour Joseph Deroche, who settled there in the early 1880s and had moved to BC from Quebec, Canada in 1860 during the gold rush. Deroche died on March 19, 1922, age 99, and some of his descendants still live in the area.

Withdrawn by London Transport in summer 1982, DMS1684 followed its fellow class members to Ensign's of Purfleet.
It was purchased by Ted Brakell of Cheam in July 1984 for film and television hire, which is when it received this pseudo London Country livery.
After a loan to Cityrama for use on LRT tendered service 200, it once again was purchased by Ensign and became part of their operational fleet.
By 1991 it was on the move again, this time to Blue Triangle who converted the bus to open top for sightseeing work. Finally withdrawn in the late nineties, it went back to Ensign for a third time and was placed in the sales pool.
It was then purchased by a garden centre where it was used as a static display for some years. Remarkably, the bus still exists and currently resides in Cheshire in a resale yard.

Last week I visited the Cheam Wetlands east of Chilliwack and I got to watch three Hairy Woodpeckers work their way through some low trees. There was a Downy Woodpecker hanging around but got driven away.

On Lake Cheam there are still a few Ring-necked Ducks the week before I had seen many more a short distance away.
with apologies to Ezra Pound. I imagine this is similar to what was in the poet's mind when he wrote the line "I would hold the rosy, slender fingers of the dawn for you."
