“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.”

A crazy array of architectural wonder poses challenges for framing. Reflections play with reality while reality does it's own dance with shapes and angles that almost defy logic. Muted colors help sort things a bit. Horizontal plays with vertical and that plays with diagonals of every sort. Shapes repeat forming patterns that fold upon themselves throughout the image. It's an art institute - go figure.

primordial world lives in my imagination, draped in rainbow colors and swirling mists. Light reveals shapes that form ridges of repetition that invite exploration. Mood permeates the shot. Interpretation is up to each viewer. The universe holds many stories and realities.

Located near Widnes in North West of England, Fiddler’s Ferry power plant began generating enough electricity to power 2m homes in 1973. A slow and steady rise for better renewable energy and to the country hoping to become carbon-neutral led to it's inevitable demise and was officially closed on 31st March 2020. One of the last coal burning power stations in the UK.

Light splashes a rolling hill leading to the summit of Mount Mansfield. Can you spot the early sign of fall color?

I had a garage sale today, and I know it sounds so mundane to put that into words ... but that is how my story begins. I had a serious epiphany during the course of my boring and ordinary day. When I look back on my life, I find that most epiphanies occur just like that! Don't you agree?

There was this little boy.

He was sweet, gregarious and so full of life. He translated everything we said for this mother. He ran from item to item, holding them aloft in wonder. I'm talking about toys that were selling for .10¢ or .25¢. All of these toys belonged to my girls when they were little and though they carried a lot of sentimental value, they weren't worth much physically. Looking at them brought back so many wonderful, tearful and bittersweet memories.

To see another child enjoy them as much as my children did, was eye-opening, to say the least ... and the epiphany was realizing that the joy these items gave me, wasn't so much in the physical item itself, but rather the memory of it..

So I gave this sweet little boy a heaping bag of my 'memories.' And to see the light in his eyes, the joyous bounce in his walk ... well, lets just say it made my day, my week, my month! Heck, it just made my year!!

Letting go of the physical item does not mean letting go of the memory.

His words are still echoing in my head as I write this ... what he kept saying over and over again in a singsong voice:

"This is the best day ever!'

I missed my Flickr Peeps and wanted to give you a little bit of a sunrise fence this morning. I know, the sunrise is a bit underwhelming *heavy sigh* but it finally did peek out a bit and give the sky some color! I'll be catching up to everyone tonight ... as today is a girl's day! *happy dance*

Mono Lake on Christmas Day

I kept moving. As soon as I was done with one composition, I moved onto the next.

The clouds lingered and created beautiful stripes of shadows onto the mountains.

The water was still calm enough letting me have relatively clear reflections.

And it was time to move onto the next spot.

A Wink

Caught in a window - a collection of elements that only reflection can provide in its altered reality. Lines and shapes and textures mix with a bit of mystery. It's an original recipe. A sight that won't come along again. In the blink (or wink) of an eye - it's gone.

When the museum architecture is as inspiring as this, what’s exhibited has to be grand. The Joslyn did not disappoint. Omaha, Nebraska. Sister is on 49/50 states before the 31st anniversary of her 29th birthday in June ‘26.

Don't you?

This was taken on the same morning as my sunbeam fence shot last week. I took this one before I found the farm fence. I was driving back from the lake and a lackluster sunrise and saw the sunbeams pouring through the trees on this country lane. As I was taking my photos, another intrepid soul pulled in behind me (so much for solitude) ... but it was another photographer with Nikon gear, so I forgave him. We talked shop: cameras, photography and this most amazing view unfolding before our eyes. I wish I had gotten his name.

The title (slightly rewritten) is from a song by The Smithereens. Saw them in a tiny club in San Diego in 1989. They rocked that little club; got our $5 covers' worth! Loved the beatnik look they had going on. The old man leapt up and caught the bass player's guitar pick (which Jackie quietly appropriated for her own collection)!

Happy Sunrise / Sunbeam / Smithereen Thursday!

I recently went on a brief road trip with my daughter. I was so sad to see the dry, brown landscape as I traveled up the coast. Yesterday Governor Jerry Brown declared a drought state of emergency in California. It seems like the weather is crazy all over this planet.

Despite the brown, barren mountains, this beach looked the same. I applaud Jackie for hanging out with me in the freezing cold so I could get a few photos of my favorite spot.

Happy Saturday Folks!

Recently harvested fields add lines and textures. Gentle hues contrast. Bicycles await. Double exposure enhances the fun.
