Light splashes a rolling hill leading to the summit of Mount Mansfield. Can you spot the early sign of fall color?

Making Time to Play

Inside the Broad Museum, art plays with light and reflection to create its own shapes and delight, that catch my eye. Framed within a frame, the selfie is born. Wonderful, curved spaces repeat over and over forming patterns that morph across surfaces changing contour and size. Brilliant warm colors add to the sense of play. Diagonal cants add drama and fun - it's a bit of a party - a celebration of art and appreciation - something happening.

I missed my Flickr Peeps and wanted to give you a little bit of a sunrise fence this morning. I know, the sunrise is a bit underwhelming *heavy sigh* but it finally did peek out a bit and give the sky some color! I'll be catching up to everyone tonight ... as today is a girl's day! *happy dance*

Happy Fence Friday!!

Chasing Light 2019: A sunrise crowd was on hand at the Vietnam and Lincoln Memorials on the National Mall yesterday to see the sun for the first time in many days. Even though the federal government was shut down a Park Service ranger was on hand at the Lincoln Memorial which was still open for visitors, even though restrooms were closed. Mono Lake on Christmas Day

I kept moving. As soon as I was done with one composition, I moved onto the next.

The clouds lingered and created beautiful stripes of shadows onto the mountains.

The water was still calm enough letting me have relatively clear reflections.

And it was time to move onto the next spot.

A Wink

Caught in a window - a collection of elements that only reflection can provide in its altered reality. Lines and shapes and textures mix with a bit of mystery. It's an original recipe. A sight that won't come along again. In the blink (or wink) of an eye - it's gone.

Don't you?

This was taken on the same morning as my sunbeam fence shot last week. I took this one before I found the farm fence. I was driving back from the lake and a lackluster sunrise and saw the sunbeams pouring through the trees on this country lane. As I was taking my photos, another intrepid soul pulled in behind me (so much for solitude) ... but it was another photographer with Nikon gear, so I forgave him. We talked shop: cameras, photography and this most amazing view unfolding before our eyes. I wish I had gotten his name.

The title (slightly rewritten) is from a song by The Smithereens. Saw them in a tiny club in San Diego in 1989. They rocked that little club; got our $5 covers' worth! Loved the beatnik look they had going on. The old man leapt up and caught the bass player's guitar pick (which Jackie quietly appropriated for her own collection)!

Happy Sunrise / Sunbeam / Smithereen Thursday!

Keyhole Arch | Pfeiffer Beach | Big Sur

I recently went on a brief road trip with my daughter. I was so sad to see the dry, brown landscape as I traveled up the coast. Yesterday Governor Jerry Brown declared a drought state of emergency in California. It seems like the weather is crazy all over this planet.

Despite the brown, barren mountains, this beach looked the same. I applaud Jackie for hanging out with me in the freezing cold so I could get a few photos of my favorite spot.

Happy Saturday Folks!

Cheesy title, I know! 'Tis the Season I Guess!! I can't think of anything else at the moment. And another bird picture? What gives? I'm not sure as birds aren't my usual subject!

Nothing special today; just a Happy Tuesday!

I do not know what possessed me to brave the arctic chill, but I grabbed the camera and headed down to the Fox River for a few sunrise photos. It was so darned, ridiculously cold! Do they make special gloves for idiot photographers? Because I need them! My fingers were literally NUMB after only about 10 minutes of shooting! I had grand plans to, quickly abandoned, and this is what I ended up with.

I haven't had too much time to look at any of my photos. This is one I really like. A few of you probably already saw this on Facebook. Rachel called me from her morning commute and said I needed to get out there and 'shoot the moon!' And so I did! I had a bit of time to play with my 10-stop ND filter. And of course this was before the baby came!!

Today is the family photo shoot, then grandpa flies back home tonight.

Happy Anything Wednesday Everyone!! I will be around later this evening to see what everyone is up to. Been missing my Flickr peeps!! :-)

"The truth is, your lifestyle is not defined by the things you live with, but by the way you live and the happiness it brings to yourself and others." 🌟 🌈 ⋅

Had a wonderful relaxing coastal drive during winter break.

This beach was wonderful for sunset.

Only us and the birds, leaving our marks in the sand.
