They open to and fro creating mirror images without a mirror. Arcs draw my eye - rectangles intersect - it just fascinates in a way that demands capture. Bold lines anchor all over and provide paths to investigate everything that is included in the frame. It lives in harmony.

Landscape photography often rewards patience more than planning. This image was created during a period of rapidly changing weather when dense cloud cover obscured much of the surrounding landscape. For a brief moment, the clouds parted, allowing shafts of sunlight to reach the mountainside and lake below.
The composition uses the winding path as a visual guide, inviting the viewer into the scene while emphasizing the scale of the landscape beyond. The contrast between the darkened foreground, the illuminated slopes, and the dramatic cloud formations creates a sense of tension and balance that reflects the constantly changing nature of mountain environments.
This work explores the relationship between weather, light, and place—capturing a fleeting moment that existed for only a few seconds before disappearing back into shadow.

Morning light at Serón
[This is a series of photos that I took while backpacking Torres del Paine. I tried to take as many photos as possible, but it rained so much more than I had ever anticipated, so it was not possible. Itt was extremely windy, so a combination of both rain and wind made it difficult to shoot while actually hiking.]
I didn’t know if these were any good. I just took as many shots as I could before the light faded.
Little did I know that more rain was in store for the next several days, and for the remainder of the trip I managed to take only half of what I took that day.
So, I am glad that I took this shot and that I was able to turn this into part of the mini series - Morning light at Serón.
Rough seas and high waves give this gull an opportunity to cruise. Action, frozen in time gives my eye time to linger on details that usually rush by. Intricate shapes and patterns emerge. The energy of the subject is complimented by the high contrast and dynamic lines.

I am so enamored with the warm color palette seen along the Artist Palette drive in Death Valley. Everywhere I turned, the setting sun was painting a new canvas.
A painterly sky - a piece of nature - joins a city scultpture - a piece of human. The contrast between defines shapes and textures and a bit of depth. Abstract, just for the fun of it.

Rainy days can gift some magic when I take time to stop and explore. An old parking lot shares colorful shapes, old tire tracks and reflected light posts creating a nice series of patterns, lines and angles. It invites exploration.

My favorite woods never disappoint. Though at first, the thick fog did not hold promise for sunbeams. I stuck around and I'm glad I did! Hope everyone is ready for Halloween!
When I yearn for the sun and the sand, I head to the archives ... especially in December. This was taken at sunrise on Lake Michigan. The October sun was magnificent that day!!
I saw the potential for an epic sunrise yesterday morning as I looked out my back window ... I had only 40 minutes (before taking Jack to the train station) so I was racing around my area trying to find a good vantage point. The outlet mall was a depressing place to watch it rise. *heavy sigh*
So frustrating ... to envision how breathtaking it would have been if only ... I had been anywhere else but here ... in Aurora!! So I will content myself this morning with memories of sunrises past!

While searching my archives today I came across this long exposure. I remember this evening very well.
I take so many photos, and so many of them are overlooked, lost & forgotten. I need to stop taking photos!

I have to warn everyone, I am in a beach mood this week!! The best place in the world to be, is right here on a beach, digging toes in the sand and watching the sunrise. That there was a fence off to the side was an amazing coincidence!! And a heart carved on the fence post? Serendipity!!
Thanks SO MUCH to everyone's wonderful comments and dedication posts for my 50th birthday yesterday. The slide into my next decade wasn't as traumatic as I thought it would be!!
