I’m all soft smiles and slow pages — don’t mistake the quiet for lack of fire. Stick around, you might just get a peek between the lines.

The challenge is to tell a story in four pictures. They will be spread throughout the year.
Please forgive my absence this past month. I have been extremely busy with packing, getting my house ready to put on the market, and getting ready to move. I am moving from my home in the country, where I have lived for almost 36 years, to a newly built home in a subdivision. There has not been much time or energy left over for photography! Moving date is May 25th. I put my current home on the market this past Monday and it sold on Tuesday! Busy time!
But we still managed to fit in the Smurf's wedding. :-)

The chapter house was the most important part of the abbey after the church. Here the monks would be read a chapter from the rule of St Benedict (hence Chapter House), confess their faults and be punished by the abbot. Day to day business for the abbey would also be carried out here. This part of the abbey dates from approximately 1400
Hello there!
Today I would like to show you the fourth part of my Mandalorian project. I had a lot of fun with it. My main idea was to show the scene where Omera is trying to take off the Mando's helmet. Otherwise I was so excited because finally I could use a lot of plant parts. I wanted to keep the wild climate of Sorgan, so I decided to create a straw-hatched house. I hope you will like it! Thanks!

In our household our hearts are turning towards Christmas and the greatest story ever told. My younger sister is a talented singer/songwriter and on her latest album (a Christmas album - check it out on iTunes: apple.co/21GQ524) she shared a song she wrote by the name "Luke Chapter 2". I had that song in mind when I thought of the concept of this image. The Bible opened to Luke Chapter 2 and the story of the birth of Jesus with the lights of Christmas blazing in bokeh beyond. I tried a few different approaches, but settle on this SMC Takumar 50mm f/1.4 lens with a single Metz 64 AF-1 flash and a Lite Genius Super Scoop II defuser a ways behind the camera so that the light would be soft by the time it hit the bright white pages of the Bible. The end result is pretty cool, I think, and is almost straight out of camera.
Technical Information: Canon EOS 6D, SMC Takumar 50mm f/1.4, Processed in Adobe Lightroom CC, Photoshop CC, and Alien Skin Exposure X (use code "dustinabbott" to get 10% off)

A more traditional shot of the ruins of Margam Abbey's Chapter House taken from further back. See first comment for the close-up panoramic version.
And up the far bank and beyond where they had spotted a small group of wildebeests.
Stay tuned...final chapter tomorrow!
Masai Mara
Threw together this quick custom of The Marshal from The Mandalorian S2 earlier this week. Still absolutely blown away that Timothy Olyphant was brought on to full realize a book-originating character in live-action to begin reintroducing Boba Fett. Wild.
Valle Crucis Abbey Chapter House
Light Painted with a torch. Done by standing behind one pillar, counting for 3 seconds covering the torch then moving behind the other pillar to back light that one.
I nearly walked into the other pillar a couple of times when trying to get this right! probably my fave shot from the night though!

Lacock Abbey is the home of Henry Fox Talbot, considered to be the Father of Photography. he invented the process of using salt to fix an image to paper, in 1839. I was excited to make a pilgrimage to his home. Who wouldn't be inspired living in an Abbey.

As I've got older I think I have got more cynical but occasionally you realise how nice people can be.
Since I got my hands on a Zeiss 15mm I've been thinking I need to go photograph the Chapter House ceiling at York Minster.
So with the weather looking awful today I headed to York. Made my way to the Minster, paid in and then headed straight to the Chapter House. When I got there it was shut. There where a couple of older ladies who were sorting out an area with sandwiches etc so I asked them it it was shut for the day. They explained it was as a number of important services where being held in the room. But they wanted to know why I wanted to go in as I explained on of them said well we shall have to get you special permission! Off she went and ten minutes later came back removed the barrier and said I would be ok for 15 minutes. Great when someone helps like that :)
Have to say I love this spot it's one of those places which feeds the soul!
