From the Columbia National wildlife Refuge south of Moses Lake Washington. The channeled scablands of eastern Washington state is a landscape that has been shaped by repeated catastrophic ice age floods.
Rough Star-Thistle (Centaurea aspera) - habit. Naturalised in a few places in southern Britain, but more widespread in Channel Islands (Jersey since at least 1839, earlier in Guernsey). A relative of the more common Knapweeds. At the edge of a car park on sandy soil.
