Chamba is a town in the Chamba district in the state of Himachal Pradesh, in northern India. According to the 2001 Indian census the town is situated on the banks of the Ravi River (a major tributary of the Trans-Himalayan Indus River), at its confluence with the Sal River. Chambial were the Rulers of Chamba State Chambials use suffix Varmans.
Though historical records date the history of the Chamba region to the Kolian tribes in the 2nd century BC, the area was formally ruled by the Maru dynasty, starting with the Raju Maru from around 500 AD, ruling from the ancient capital of Bharmour, which is located 75 kilometres (47 mi) from the town of Chamba. In 920, Raja Sahil Varman (or Raja Sahil Verma) shifted the capital of the kingdom to Chamba, following the specific request of his daughter Champavati , Who Further Adopted a Kid Named Pt.Shiv Kumar Upmanyu (Chamba was named after her). From the time of Raju Maru, 67 Rajas of this dynasty ruled over Chamba until it finally merged with the Indian Union in April 1948, although Chamba was under British suzerainty from 1846 to this time.
The town has numerous temples and palaces, and hosts two popular jatras (fairs), the "Suhi Mata Mela" and the "Minjar Mela", which last for several days of music and dancing. Chamba is also well noted for its arts and crafts, particularly its Pahari paintings, which originated in the Hill Kingdoms of North India between the 17th and 19th century, and its handicrafts and textiles.

The Chamera Dam impounds the River Ravi and supports the hydroelectricity project in the region. It is located near the town of Dalhousie, in the Chamba district in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India The reservoir of the dam is the Chamera Lake.
After completion of the first phase, the Chamera-I generates 540 MW (3x180 MW) of electricity. The second stage i.e. Chamera-II Dam generates 300 MW (3X100 MW) of electricity. From year 2012, the 3rd stage i.e. Chamera III generates 231 MW (3x77) of electricity.
The unique feature of the region is the fluctuating day and night temperature. The temperature during the day near the dam rises up to 35 degrees Celsius and drops to a minimum of 18 to 20 °C at night.
The water level in the Chamera Lake rises to a maximum of 763 meters while the minimum water level is 747 meters.
The absence of aquatic life in the lake has made it an ideal location for water sports. According to the plan developed by the tourism department, the lake shares the scope of sports activities like rowing, motor boating, paddle boating, sailing, canoeing, angling and kayaking. House boats and shikaras are also available. The government attempts to provide all these facilities to the tourists.

Muchos no llegan
se hunden sus sueños
papeles mojados, papeles sin dueños.
Frágiles recuerdos a la deriva
desgarran el alma
calaos hasta los huesos,
el agua los arrastra sin esperanza
la impotencia en sus gargantas
con sabor a sal
una bocaná de aire
les daba otra oportunidad.
Tanta injusticia me desespera
ponte tu en su lugar
el miedo que sus ojos reflejan.
la mar se echó a llorar.

Manimahesh is in the south-eastern corner of Chamba District of Himachal Pardesh here in north India. It lies at an altitude of 13,390 ft.
The name Manimahesh signifies a jewel (Mani) on Lord Shiva's (Mahesh's) crown Local people claim that the moon-rays reflected from the jewel can be seen from Manimahesh Lake on clear full-moon nights (which is a rare occasion). It is more likely to be the light reflected from the glacier that adorns the peak, like a serpent on Shiva's neck.
It is believed that Lord Shiva one of the three Lords in Hindu Trinity (known as Lord Brahma the creator, Lord Vishnu the Preserver and Lord Shiva the destroyer) stays at Manimahesh Kailash.
Offical Manimahesh yatra starts near janmashtami festival and continue till mid september. For rest time of year, this whole area is covered under snow.
Bhalei Mata Temple - Bhalei, Himachal Pradesh.
Bhalei Mata Temple is the temple of Bhadra kali popularly known as Sri Bhalei Mata. It is located on a beautiful square at 3800 feet hight at a place called Bhalei, which is now a Sub-Tehsil headquarters. It is about 25 km from Salooni Tehsil headquarters. The temple can be approached either from Chamba or from Dalhousie and is at a distance of 40 kilometers from Chamba and 35 kilometers from Dalhousie.
The deity is in the front of an image of black stone of two feet height and is enshrined in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. Bhadar Kali draw a large number of pilgrims from far and wide. A big havan ceremony is performed during navratras of Ashwin and Chait months.
Mythology has it that the temple of Bhadar Kali was built originally by Raja Pratap Singh during his reign. He was a religiously disposed king and has to his credit construction, repair and renovation of many temples in the district. The legend is that the deity appeared to Raja Partap Singh in dream and told him that she was lying hidden in a place called Bhran about three kilometers from the present site of temple. The deity asked the Raja to bring her from there and erect a suitable temple for her. The Raja with his officials went to the site and discovered the image. The Raja and his team were very happy they had already decided to construct a temple for the deity in Chamba town. So they started their journey back. On way back they stopped for rest at Bhalei and when they resumed their journey, the bearers could not lift the palanquin of the deity in which she was being taken to Chamba. A Brahmin from Kilod village was invited to interpret this peculiar incident. The Brahamin interpreted that the deity did not want to go to Chamba, rather she desired her temple to be erected at the site.
According to another belief, the people of this area were not happy over the idea of the deity being taken to Chamba, so they requested the Raja to construct the temple at Bhalei. Whatever be the reason, the temple was built at Bhalei by Raja Partap Singh and later renovated by Raja Sri Singh. Recently a lot of renovation work has been carried out. Statue of Bhader Kali was unfortunately stolen in the year 1973 by antique thieves but happily recovered at Chohra near the present dam site. It is believed that the image of the deity seems to be perspiring since that event.

Khajjiar (Hindi: खज्जियार) is a hill station in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, India, located approximately 24 km from Dalhousie.
Khajjiar sits on a small plateau with a small stream-fed lake in the middle that has been covered over with weeds. The hill station is surrounded by green meadows and dense forests. It is about 6,500 feet (2,000 m) above sea level in the foothills of the Dhauladhar ranges of the Western Himalayas and snowy peaks can be seen in the distance. It is part of the Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary.
Khajjiar can be reached from Dalhousie, the nearest major town and hill station, by bus in an hour or so. It has a rare combination of three ecosystems: lake, pasture and forest, all in one place.
On 7 July 1992, Mr. Willy T. Blazer, Vice Counselor and Head of Chancery of Switzerland in India brought Khajjiar on the world tourism map by christening it "Mini Switzerland". He also put a sign board of a yellow Swiss hiking footpath showing Khajjiar's distance from the Swiss capital Berne-6194 km. Khajjiar is among the 160 locations in the world that bear topographical resemblance with Switzerland. The counselor also took from Khajjiar a stone which will form part of a stone collage around the Swiss Parliament to remind the visitors of Khajjiar as a Mini Switzerland of India.

After spending a couple of days in Dhanolti, the son and I were off to Kaudiyal, on the banks of the Ganga
Enroute, we passed the small town or village of Chamba. Our driver on this trip was not very cooperative, we made a few enquiries, then drove into the compound of a local hotel, Classic Hilltop. As soon as we drove in I realised this place was something special. There were the most beautiful flowers I had seen in a long time, in the compound. We had lunch there(very good authentic North Indian food), I took the manager's permission to take pictures in the compound. What you see are pictures shot in that compound

So grab one now!!!!

Happy weekend again guys!
The dawn, trembling to the heavenly bassist's thunder lights up the legendary peaks of Kullu Himalaya.
From L- R, they stand as:
Mt. Hanuman Tibba - 5980m
Mt. Shikerbeh - 6200m
Mt. Mukerbeh - 6070m
Hanuman Tibba is the highest summit in the Dhauladhar Range. Further North, Shikerbeh & Mukerbeh are summits on the Pir Panjal Range. This is precisely close to the rendezvous of two mighty ranges in Himachal Pradesh, India as they rise to embrace each other forming a T-Junction. Hanuman Tibba borders the Districts of Kangra to west and Kullu to east . Shikerbeh and Mukerbeh border Kullu to South and Lahul to North.
There exists a certian view that Makerbeh and Shikarbeh are part of the Bara Bhangal range which may be ascribed to the first explorers to the region.
For the sake of clarity, if we look at a shape as the alphabet "T" , then the horizontal line on top should hold the Pir Panjal Range, while the vertical line stands for Bara Banghal Range. The immediate predecessors on the Bara Banghal Range, lie N-S (up-down) to each other & identically the ones on Pir Panjal are E-W (left-right) to each other.
Kaliheni Jot, Hanuman Tibba Peak & Tentu Jot are oriented N-S to each other on the Bara Banghal Range. The eastern slopes of this range feed River Beas and the western feed Ravi.
The two massive satellites Shikerbeh & Makerbeh, lie just at a point on the left junction of this "T" (leftwards after Ladakhi Peak, which happens to be the meeting point of horizontal & vertical lines).
If we follow the range westwards from Rohtang La, then the peaks appear in order as: Friendship, Shitidhar & Ladakhi. Further westwards (beyond the T-junction) there is Manali Pk. , Mukar Beh, Shikar Beh & the independent offshoot Gupt Parbat. After Shikar Beh the range further expands westwards to Laluni Pk-I, II, Laluni Jot, Sankadenk Jot, Kugti Pass all between Chamba-Lahul. Given the orientation and the catchment, the range which feeds Chandra through its northern slopes & Ravi through its southern has been called Pir Panjal in Himachal Pradesh.
