In celebration of "hump day" upon us ... thought that I would share this image of a young bull moose in Denali National Park.
This year we spent about 10 days total in Denali and we were treated to cooler weather, fall colors, an assortment of wildlife sightings, and the beginning of moose rut. At the time we arrived, we were already on a 13-day drought with no moose sightings under our belt in 2013. Our luck changed quickly when we arrived at Denali NP - about 18-20 moose sightings with just a few hours! All was forgiven. :-)
While the moose rut was not yet in full swing, we did see lots of males following around the females, probably sorting out how it was all going to play out. This particular bull was closely following cow, though it will probably be in vain, as he wasn't mature enough to defend his cow if challenged by the bigger, stronger, more mature bulls. But I guess you have to learn how to play the game. ;-)
I'm always amazed at how docile they can be, at least still at this point, especially knowing that more people are injured by moose that other animals within the park. How gorgeous he was as he trolled around the willows, which were beginning to show some autumn colors.
As the winter approaches, I hope that the wildlife makes it through the tough winter ahead. Also, here's hoping that the US National Parks will be up and running again real soon.
If you haven't checked it out yet, please be sure do so at www.tnwaphotography.wordpress.com - for more images from our Alaskan Adventure.
Thanks for stopping by to view and especially for all of your thoughts and comments.

One of my photo groups had a photo challenge this week that was "Placed or Unnatural Ice" so it had to be man made ice, or a natural piece out of it's element. I had just thrown away my gangly poinsettia and quickly rescued it from the garbage and froze some of the snippings. I removed the frozen piece and propped it up to shoot against the light. Got a few good shots, then the piece fell and broke. Below is a photo taken of the broken piece and below that is a B&W conversion that I thought looked cool.

He is taking quite a risk. The big lad had been responsible for the death of an older and even bigger Stag only a week before.

This plate commemorates one of the greatest steam locomotives of all time. The Challenger was made for the Union Pacific Railroad from 1936 to 1944. It could easily cruise at speeds greater than 60 mph (100kph). For all intent and purposes it had two enormous engines. The 4-6-6-4 referred to its wheel configuration.
My own electric train, which I received for Christmas, 1958 when I was nine, was an American Flyer with a model of the Challenger as its locomotive and I was proud to own it.

Claire was very excited to learn that this week the models would be attending IL Divo's concert. It's nice to be in the presence of handsome men - even if they may not be interested...Testosterone is Testosterone. Getting tired of this Estrogen.

I tried a few just crouching balanced over the tub, but they didn't turn out as interesting. Still, after turning this one right side up, I don't mind it at all.
