This is a grave of a colored man that was buried out side of the cemetary's lot. i found it years ago and have pictures of it before the new headstone and with the fence seperating it from the main cemetary. it is interesting ..the cemetary dates back to 1848. as kids we would hang out here . it used to be real hard to get to because the road to it was so bad. now it is just hard to find with the high priced homes around it .
Round Seats with Carvings in North Cemetary Hartlepool. North Cemetary is currently undergoing various improvement projects to make it a more appealing area for the public. There are various carvings around the park and I think theres a nice atmoshphere in there !!
This is the 2nd of 7 photos. My favorite is the first one. These 7 images in a row are from the Mountain Breeze Memorial Gardens near Miami, Arizona, off Highway 60. I don't think this desert and mountain landscape affords digging crypts and vault spaces.
This is an abandoned cemetary deep in the woods down an abandoned logging road. I happened on this while looking for old kaoline mines for fossils. I just happened to stop to take a leak and barely caught an upraised hand in the distance an
d just a hint of a wrought iron fence. This has the grave of Hayden Hughes consort. The writing on the consorts grave stoicly proclaimes that "here lie the remains" and the word consort is plainly visible. What is unusual is that the more ornate grave has a mariners them and religious symbols such as a cross are noticeably absent. The wrought iren posts have somewhat of a cross but given the lack of markings on the tombstones I'm thinking that this was not purposely ordered but rather what was readily available at the time. This is a very peculiar place and it has been calling me for some time to come capture the imagery of this place.
This small cemetary has been overgrown for years....Some local Boy Scouts recently cleaned it up...my daughter and I stopped by yesterday and took these photos...some of the headstones are so worn with time you can barely read them...I have zoomed in and gathered as much info as I could to identify them...
No, no, they don't do cremations. People burn offerings to... uh... appease the spirits. Something like that. Pardon my ignorance.
It's a national historic site, and testament to now-defunct (we hope) racism. Back in the day, Chinese people were not allowed to use the white people's cemetaries. So they built their own, here, looking out across the Pacific.
This and "Pyramid" are a couple of shots from my first foray into infrared photography. I converted my old Olympus 3040Z by using unexposed slide film as a filter. The images come out pretty noisy. I used the Healing tool in photoshop to get rid of some of the noise. Also the focus is not very sharp. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate them.
