The magnificent ornamental ceiling of the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourviere in Lyon, France. This church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary who is said to have saved Lyon from the Black Death that swept through Europe in 1643.

The photo was taken using an iPhone XR with some post-processing done in Lightroom.

I'm gone, folks. Away in another country. I hope to bring back shots.

I really hope to bring back some good ones.

I've talked to my Flickr people (I have people) and they have agreed

to put Flickr on hold while I'm gone so I don't miss anything. Whew.

If you see anything happening, they must have not been the right people.

Do you miss me yet? :)

Salisbury retrochoir is a splendid space, its vault supported by slender columns of purbeck marble. The low winter light brought out their green/blue-black colour nicely. To my eye the tan colour of the modern furniture was the perfect complement to the stonework.

View looking west from the Trinity Chapel, through the retrochoir and back down the whole length of the cathedral.

This image covers the part of the ceiling and upper north wall near the high altar. The chapel's ceiling was painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512.

Starting with the central ceiling panels on scenes from the Book of Genesis, the three from the left are on Creation: God divides Light from Darkness, God creates the Sun, Moon and Planets, and God divides the Sea from the Land.

The next three panels are scenes of the creation and fall of man: God creates Adam, God creates Eve, and Temptation of Adam & Eve and their Expulsion from the Garden of Eden.

On the upper wall just below the ceiling panels are Prophets and Sibyls. The ones visible here are (from left): The Libyan Sibyl. The Prophet Daniel, The Cumaean Sibyl, and The Prophet Isaiah.

Further down, in lunettes just above the windows, the Ancestors of Christs are depicted, mostly in family type groupings. The panels on the left, and nearest the altar are Jesse, David and Solomon. Jesse was the father of King David, whose son was King Solomon.

So many works of art decorating every facet of the palace. I'm no knowledge source for artwork, so I don't know anything about them, but it's fascinating to behold nonetheless.

Sometimes, you need to look up. I was drawn to both the stonework on the ceiling and the line made by the supporting pillar.

Philadelphia's City Council meets in a wonderful wood-paneled room with many great architectural details, including this lovely ceiling.

Chrisinphilly5448, my husband & I were in City Hall for a photo exhibit one evening and ran into Councilwoman Blackwell. She had overheard us talking about how much we liked finding all these cool historical architectural bits & proceeded to take us on a 45-minute private tour of Council chambers & meeting rooms! Thanks, Ms. Blackwell!
