Now that's a switch. This is the switch that all the gig-e IP transport streams go too get put onto the sonet ring. Were talking alot of data here, hundreds of standard definition and high definition channels.

This is the flash end of my Promaster ETTL cord. This end was easy, I just desoldered the existing wires and re-soldered the Cat6 wires in their place.

That silver thing that all the wires come out of helps hold the cable in place. Without this you could easily rip the soldered wires right out of the device. Each end has one. I carefully pryed it off of the existing cable and used it on my Cat6 wire. All I had to do was carefully crimp it without damaging the cable.

There is a divot you can't see. It is basically a spot where the metal was dented in to grab onto the cable. I used the tooth on my Klein crimper to re-crimp this divot on the new cable being careful not to puncture the jacket.

The black plastic on the outside of the end is a strain relief device. It was molded to the wire so I couldn't use it. In its place I used black car stereo power wire ends. These are rubber or vynil tapered sleaves that cover crimp connectors. If you have a friend into car stereos, he or she proably has some. You can get by without these, or find something that will work at your local electronics store.

As for the wires, it is simply color to color. Red on this end is red on the other end. Yellow is yellow green is green--you get the idea. I took these pics so I would have a color and position reference.

If all else fails simply remember that it is pin to pin. The center pin on one end is the center pin on the other. The upper left pin on this end is the upper left pin on the other. Easy.

You can also pick up a digital multi meter to help test the continuity of each pin. You can get them at Sears on sale for $10. Autoparts stores also have cheapies for that or less. Basically you touch a coresponding pin on each end and the meter will beep, or otherwise signal a connection. These are great for trouble-shooting.

Use Cat5e or better cable. I used some Ethernet cable because I had it and it was black. You can buy it in bulk, but I just cut the ends off of a 14-foot pre-made cable I had.

Testing our hopefully soon to be deployed HP MSM422 WLAN AP:s. Trying to understand why they don't power on 100% of the time. 20 Power injectors from HP, 20 1 and 2 meter cat6 cables from Telegärtner and 20 HP MSM422 access points.
