Step 5: Close it up
After the conductors have been properly connected, I plugged in my ethernet cable and tested with a multimeter to ensure that only intended connections would pass current and that the resistance would be low. I noticed that Pin 4 on the P-TTL cable was showing high resistance. I had to remove the blue wire from the socket for RJ45 pin 4, manually strip away the insulation, and reattach the wire. Once that was done, I was able to take a test photo using HSS with a camera several feet further from the flash than I would have been able to before.
The completed cable now rests in my light bag.

Here's some of the magic that helps make my home automation automated.
Clockwise from top left:
a) HDMI over Cat5E receiver to get High Definition video from the main equipment rack.
b) RGHBV distribution amplifier: I'm sending both component video and RGBHV (PC) video over the same wires, but the TV needs to have the video split to different inputs
c) Crestron C2N-VEQ4: Does a tiny bit of audio processing and the volume control for the master bedroom
d) Current Sensor for the TV: Provides positive confirmation that the TV is on or off.
Coax cable and new CAT 5e cables feed into basement via chase that leads up to attic. The chase is original to house; apparently it was originally added to allow future expansion of HVAC to basement area.
The left side green panel is ethernet patching. On the right side is phone patching. The red patch PCB panel patches audio to the bedroom as well as the main phone line through the DSL filter.
Canon's Off Camera Shoe Cord2 cut and wired into the Cat5e jack. Note the 6th wire, unshielded ground, has been unwound from the outer cables and separated into three smaller strands. It is just too big unless you divide it up. The cable order does not matter, just match the pattern on the second jack so that you get a straight through connection (A to A or B to B pattern).
