Finally finished tieing up all the lose cables that were under my floor with my (now-dead) server.

This huge cat was at Seaside Park where tons and tons of sand was being moved after a huge storm.

whip me with a cat5 cable

You'll never see a sysadmin more at home than when he's digging through a tangled briar patch of network cable, and this data center has more than enough CAT5 (or "funny thread", as it's called in the biz) to keep even the most enthusiastic cable-arranger entertained for hours.

Video in the house is distributed on regular coax, as well as category5 network cable. This allows for rerouting and future expansion.

Ethernet cable plugged into RJ-45 Jack with Cat 5 cable completed.

Its 2011 and most homes still do not have Gigabit Ethernet. Come on people, 802.3ab came out in 1999 setting the standard for UTP CAT5e/6. If you do not have a 1,000,000,000 bps connection right now, what are you waiting for to upgrade?

I bought these cheap $20 HDMI Extender over CAT5 / CAT6 receiver & sender on eBay from a seller in Hong Kong. I was very surprised how well it worked with 75 feet long CAT6 cables.

With a new work year starting tomorrow I've had an early spring clean of my rucksack... seemed like a good opportunity to contribute to the WIYB? group.

Wireless 7760 11 A/b/g Poe Access Point

The dual band user configurable 802.11a or 802.11b/g, Wi-Fi certified 3Com Wireless 7760 11a/b/g PoE Access Point is an attractive solution for cost effectively and securely extending mobile access to wired network resources or creating full-featured networks in small and medium businesses, remote sites, or temporary locations. Displaying ultra-fast speeds of up to 108Mbps in turbo mode, and superior long-range connectivity with eXtended range (XR) technology this access point supports up to 64 wireless users, so there is plenty of room for growth.PoE support overcomes installation problems by eliminating the need for an AC power plug at each AP. The 3Com Switch 5500-EI PWR, 3Com Baseline Switch 2226- PWR Plus or other IEEE 802.3af-compliant PoE products can supply both power and data to the access points through Category 5 or 6 Ethernet cabling, giving you flexible installation options in hard to wire or reach locations.

This Canon off-camera cord just asked for a modification, the standard length wasn't enough for me: I used some mini DIN-plugs and 5 meters of CAT5-cable to create an extension cable ($10,-). This way you keep ETTL II, which is perfect for e.g. outdoor studio setups.

To reduce the amount of clutter created by the various networking components and wires in the office I decided to install an in-wall panel to house the various items.

This panel controls 5 cat5e wall jacks in the office, 1 in the living room in the opposite end of the house.

I turned around and saw... this.

Not pictured, Maxpedition Falcon II backpack.

The front of the rack we were about to replace and re-cable. Sits next to a rack we have previously rebuilt.
