The family left early Friday to drive about 500 miles to the Asheville, NC area for a week's vacation in a cabin. Of course 10 year olds like to explore, so he was on top of one of the huge boulders laying about when he slipped and fell and broke the bone in his right arm.
The Drs think he will be alright without further surgery but that will be resolved when they return to Florida.

If you haven't seen any posts of photos from me, it's because my left arm is in a cast, leaving only the fingers uncovered. Because of the cast, they have limited movement and I can't make cards or hand-folded Japanese paper dolls. Luckily, I could still type.
I tripped and fell and fractured my left wrist bone. I'll be wearing this arm armor (decorated with a drawing by my daughter) until the end of this month. Inconvenient, but no big deal!

"L’uknax Adi clan of Tlingit Indians, whose principal symbol is red salmon or sockeye, traditionally owned Chilkoot Lake and Chilkoot river, also called by the English names after their crest animal as Sockeye Clan, Coho Clan and Salmon Clan. Tlingit clans 'historically owned areas of economic production that were most often also places of importance in the Spiritual geography of the region'.
The history of the lake is directly linked to the Chilkoot village, where the Tlingits lived, after which the lake has been named. This village existed near the outlet of the Chilkoot Lake and was divided into two parts by the river; the western part was inhabited by Raven clan Tlingits while the Eagle Clan Tlingits lived on the eastern part. It was an important location for the southeast Alaskan Tlingits who reportedly settled here during pre-historic days when they subsisted on salmon and hooligan fishing; they used Hooligan fish to make fish oil, their cooking medium, by cooking the fishes in a canoe lined with hot rocks."

This series is a swipe at barns. I drove back toward Longmont on Oxford then jogged to Nimbus Road on my way home. I caught this view toward the southeast and another long shot across a field. Haying seems to be the agriculture status of this farm. I see a New Holland bale wagon near the silos. At least they are baling legal bales here. Cows can't get a square meal from the round bales! Perhaps they stored ensilage in those silos that all have rebar sticking from the tops. All three are cast cement from slip molds. I wonder if they wanted all three silos to be taller.
The foot hills are still fewer than 10 miles away as is Longmont. I was still a dandy day among throwaway days of overcast. That dictated a day of trolling with the camera.
Although still in September we were suffering August heat, I'd say the mown grasses were greening again, sort of like Boy George. It often seems agricultural has been sucked from this area. Fortunately, we can buy food from the Sam n' Ella's farm in Mexico. The area is learning how valuable water in the west really is but have yet to learn the true value of watered land and soil and that it certainly doesn't need paving.
Strangely, we had a summer that was closer to normal, if high in humidity, but I don't think ignoring climate change or pumping petroleum will make rougher weather go away. This was a summer that was hotter than any on record. This August was hotter then any on record. This September was the hottest on record, all set world wide. perhaps you see a trend. That is at least until the looming petroleum wars are settled and the Koch Brothers and their political tea purchases are put away in their place. Until then CO2 levels in the atmosphere which are at an 850 million year high, will not be turned around. We all live in Kochistan now!

Janice's cast was removed this morning! She's feeling the freedom. Now, seven weeks after the orthopedic surgery, she needs to start bearing weight on her right leg in a slow progress. Her instructions are to use a bathroom scale, applying pressure up to twenty pounds today. These exercises will increase in weight bearing over the next three weeks, until she can stand with half her weight on her right leg.
