Taken on a trip to Glen Strathfarrar with Steve (Stoates).
After exploring the remains of the old graphite mine we were drawn to the sound of rushing water further along the river. Rather than an impressive waterfall we found a series of cascades where the River Farrar steps down a small incline through a number of smaller channels, it was still a nice scene worthy of some more time spent with the camera.
I posted a photo of this little cascade on December 3rd, and it is time to post another one. The reflected trees seemed to wrap around the top of the cascade as the water started to drop over the rocks. All of these photos were perfect for black and white because of the distortion and the dull blue sky color in the original images.

A cascade of foliage (weeping willow trees) fronting the river aspect of the old St.James mill at Whitefriar’s Bridge Norwich.
Inaugurated in 1840 by the Norwich Yarn Company, which was wound up within ten years, St James continued as a textile mill under new owners. Some of the floors were let out for weaving, making men’s braces and manufacturing pianofortes. At that time Jarrold was looking for additional space for its expanding printing business. John Jarrold II established a business in Norwich as booksellers, stationers and printers, but by 1900 London Street was full to overflowing with about 400 people working in the printing works and the shop. The Whitefriars site was bought by Jarrold in 1903 to provide space for their printing business, and the old weaving sheds were converted for printing.

Cascade State Park - North Shore
Hiking the river trail on this foggy morning. The flow rate was incredible, loud and exciting. In one or two deep crevices, there was still solid winter ice!
It's one of my favorite trails to hike, and have seen more than one bear over the years. Nope, nothing lately however . . only deer and "sassy" chipmunks! :)

Criss Cross Cascade - trying saying that out loud ten times!
A close up view of the lower Ototoka Falls …. I took a few shots here to get the look of the water movement how I like it - not too milky or frozen but retaining detail whilst conveying the flow and motion.

CN L580 crosses a dirt road on the outskirts of Caledonia. The 2098 was still a fairly new visitor to the area at the time, and even in a downpour there were several of us out chasing their train down to Hagersville.
Train: CN L580 with BNSF 2098 (GP38-2) and CN 9547 (GP40-2LW).
