I'd navigated myself out on the sand banks in the middle of the Fraser then this blew in, torrential rain then hail. With my van parked over by those distant trees, decided to keep on shooting. The light that followed was quite nice though.

The great thing about my portrait 52 project is that I have been able to experiment with more variety which you typically don't always get with a 100 strangers portrait due to the limited timeframe.

I actually met Rodney at some point last year when he asked me to take a picture of him with Tim Westwood, a pioneering hip hop DJ from back in the day in London. he wasn't too impressed with the iphone picture on the day and made me take another one :-)

In any case, we exchanged contact details and have been following each other on instagram ever since. He recently contacted me about meeting up and I decided that he would be brilliant for my portrait 52 project. He was in.

Rodney is hugely passionate about photography and creativity in general. He was the one person in his group of friends who was always recording or snapping away. He was a very talented footballer and even had trials at a now premiership club.

Unfortunately he didn't make it as the team felt he wasn't tall enough. We talked more about this and how this didn't make sense since some of the worlds best players in history and currently were short e.g Lionel Messi or Diego Maradona.

As a result he has now turned his attention to photography and more importantly to living a more creative life.

Femke's question from my previous portrait session was "What would you tell your 18 year old self". He was slightly taken aback by this question because he had been thinking about something similar a lot recently. He stated that he used to enjoy being a footballer and all the praise that he would get from outsiders. He realised once that fell through that he needed to find strength from within than from external validation.

We did a variety of shots with Rodney and while I did do my classic 100 strangers style portrait I have opted for this one for my project due to my wish to share and get better at more wider angle shots.

Painted Hills, Deadman Valley by bjustice.

These rocks date from 1.6 million years ago formed from solidified volcanic ash. The Deadman Valley is a north-south valley that lies on the seam between two separate land masses that fused, 5 million years ago, into now what is British Columbia.

White Rock beach on a very low tide. Three guys hopped into this canoe and went out into the very choppy water ....... at least they were wearing life vests!
