The ladnscaping of that mountain area is stunning, not possible to capture that with a camera. The flora diversity is enormous.
We had an (very small) unexpected windfall last week, and every single penny of it has gone to buying a new front door, door frame, and tiles for the hallway. The hallway and staircase is the last of the unfinished rooms in the house, and it was time.
We ripped up the old floorboards today to get ready. Half of the floor is old wood, half is concrete from an extension (badly) done in the 80's. None of the floor (and, indeed, the 100 year old front door) can be saved. Because I'm a geek and an anthropologist (who did detailed archaeology as well), I've left messages and notes and photos and letters all over this house. This is my last chance, and I took it.
Beneath the floorboards I left today's Independent on Sunday (because I like to make my own opinions about things), which covers things like pollution, health care reform, the BA strike, and the upcoming UK elections. I included a note which is sealed against the elements, where I describe our family, our jobs, how much a carton of milk costs (£1.29), how much a loaf of bread costs (£1.49), how much petrol is (£1.14 per litre). And now plywood is sealing the whole thing and soon we are tiling it over completely.
I would love to have found things like that in the house. Maybe 100 years from now, someone will like to find these things, too.

SFC Plein Air - McKenzie Paint Out at the McKenzie Table Mountain Preserve. Part of the Sierra Foothill Conservancy. There were a bunch of well known landscape artist that were invited. Their paintings will be part of an art show event in San Francisco this summer.

This African Serval was recently live-trapped on private property in central Oklahoma by the landowner. It's obviously an escaped pet. I'm using the word 'pet' loosely, this animal is not tame. It's giving me a great big warning hiss in the photo. As I opened the cage door for a couple of quick photos, I kept reminding myself how quick a cat is and how slow I am.
This cat is taller and longer than a bobcat. This one is underweight and has some hot spots that need care. It will be sent to an exotic rehabber in Texas to be nursed back to good health. Kudos to the kind soul who saved this cat's life by trapping it.

In the sheds at Sheffield Park a photographer captures "Stepney ", an A1X "Terrier" class locomotive, while the giant 9F member 92212 simmers away in the background.
Aaron's Sniper and scout capture the enemy radio in the hidden bunker. We try to use it to call the enemy artillery on themselves, it works! However no enemy end up getting hit.
You can also see David's squad moving in on the sniper's position.
