2020 Bristol High School Alumni Event: 9-12-2020. This annual event was held Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020 by the Bristol Alumni Association or the BAA for short in the Cummins Park behind the Elkhart County Historical Museum in Bristol, Indiana. The outside event was necessary due to the partial shutdown of the Museum. In addition the outside event allowed several new activities like a Cruise-in/Sock-Hop behind the museum with popcorn, exercise equipment, track and cemetery history available. Music by DJ, Quentin Flag. The Bristol Library was open to BHS to view historical items throughout the building. RoeMary McDaniel, Historian, and Penny Bucks, Genealogical Historian hosted storytelling and photo sharing, including book sales in the main library. At 5pm, Rex Gleim, former BHS teacher gave an introduction, followed by a delicious box lunch and sharing of stories in the DJ area. John Nymeyer told the story of how he and 5-year old Pinky Mosier dressed in their western wear with cap pistols went to rob the Bristol bank, but the manager sent them home without a penny! The group welcomed what would have been the class of 1970. It was a weekend of activities, especially designed for out-of-towners, Fri., Sat. & Sun. Dining available in downtown Bristol at Chicago Downtown Eatery, Redbird Cafe & Subway. Camille’s Floral & Gifts offered 20% off storewide. Thanks to Diane Erickson and Velma Rodgers for their terrific planning. Just the Facts: Original school was built in 1903 to consolidate and house eight one-room schoolhouses in a single building with additions added over the years. It has been known as the Washington Twp. School, Bristol School & Bristol High School. The last class graduated in 1966, and the school was closed & pupils transferred to Elkhart High School.The building was bought by Howard Rush & donated to the Elkhart Co. Parks Dept. to use for history & recreation purposes such as the History Museum. housed there now. One of Texas' best loved and most used flowering ornamentals hails from a variety of habitats: sandy low grounds near streams, limestone slopes around wooded creeks and even palm groves provide fertile ground for turk's cap. It ranges from the Texas Coastal Plain, east to Florida and also to the West Indies, Mexico and Cuba.
Its vermillion red flowers are twisted into a tube showing extended red stamens protruding from the whorl. Although drought tolerant as far west as Midland, turk's cap also tolerates Houston's 'gumbo' soil and high heat, and is especially welcome in shady sites.
The marble-size red fruit is edible, having a mealy taste, and is enjoyed by a number of birds and animals. The flowers provide nectar to eager ruby-throated hummingbirds and several species of butterflies.

This baby alpaca watch cap got all stretched out after a few years of wear. It looked ridiculously silly on Everett and too loose to be warm or useful. I figured there was enough slack to insert a short brim, and indeed there was - not the most elegant of solutions, but quite functional and not badly done, given what a hack it was.
