A newborn hippo is a surprisingly capable aquatic baby, born on land or in water, able to swim and nurse underwater immediately, with mothers fiercely protective, guiding them to the surface for air and keeping them safe from predators, although they remain dependent on milk for months and often ride on their mother's back. These "river horses" start on grass around three weeks but nurse for about a year, learning to navigate their watery world under their mom's watchful eye.

The common eastern mole here in the United States is capable of eating up to thirty earthworms in one day. Although it doesn't sound very appetizing, all that protein must do something good for him, his fur is as soft as mink. I was able to fiip him out of the ground for this quick photo. Using his large front claws he was able to get back underground in the blink of an eye!
I love Whimbrels. Some birds are capable of migrating up to 2500 miles-non-stop! Their curve bills are designed to reach into crab's burrows and extract them, breaking off their claws or legs before swallowing!
Lionfish are voracious killers capable of eating small fish. Added to that they have venomous spines!

Unfortunately Lionfish have been released into the Caribbean and have also made their way through the Suez canal. Nothing in those waters predates them. They are good to eat apparently. Some divers in the Caribbean actively hunt them as they are eating up the local fish.
A child genius, capable of creating incredible inventions and deadly weapons from nearly any household item. He sold his inventions, and created a company called Gizmo Inc. He turned to villainy by joining the Fearsome Five, solely as a means for expanding his business.
I tried to base him on his design from Titans: Burning Rage. I used the jetpack build from the new Batcave, because it looks way more like some sort of weapon than just a jetpack (plus I didn't have the time to build anything new 😅)
Have you ever considered yourself capable of manipulating gravity? When you grip an object, you are doing just that.
Gravity is constantly exerting its force on objects, most notably by keeping everything weighed down. But when you lift a cup to your mouth, you are playing against gravity.
Despite gravity being a force of nature, living with it does not come naturally to humans; we learn how to work with gravity in infancy when we pick up objects and learn to adjust our grip to its weight and gravitational force.
How our brains learn this process is at the core of the Grip experiment, being performed in this image by ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst on the International Space Station on his current Horizons mission.
In the weightless environment of the Station astronauts are like infants learning to adjust to the world in which they find themselves.
In microgravity, objects have no weight, which is an important indicator to our brain of how much grip force to apply to an object when moving it up or down. Furthermore, the inner ear no longer tells us which way is up. Naturally, our brains are a little thrown off and our coordination is disturbed. Researchers from the Institute of Neuroscience in Brussels are studying how long it takes our brains to adjust to this dynamic.
How does the experiment work? Alexander performs a series of movements while gripping a purpose-built sensor that measures grip-forces, moisture and acceleration, and more to assess how the body adapts to situations in which there is no up or down.
Alexander will carry out three sessions of the experiment during his mission. As with most experiments flown on the Space Station, the data will be compared to preflight and postflight sessions.
The Grip experiment has flown on 20 parabolic flight campaigns. Results indicate that short-term exposure to microgravity induces subtle changes in how the forces used in gripping an object are coordinated. Our brains anticipate the effects of gravity even when it is not there. On the Space Station, researchers can now observe the long-term effects. The experiment was first commissioned by ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet during his mission in 2016.
These experiments are designed to help us better understand human physiology and disease diagnosis on Earth. They are also helpful to engineers designing prosthetic limbs on Earth and will be used to help design robot-human interfaces so astronauts can command robots on other planets, allowing us to further explore our Solar System.

Giant Hogweed is an invasive non-native plant species that grows abundantly along river corridors, steams and beyond. The species can reach a substantial height within in a single growing season, with individuals found on average to be two to five metres in height.
Seeds germinate from March onwards, with the plant quickly establishing a taproot. It takes three to four years to reach maturity, and in the final year produces the main stem and a large flower head. A typical flower head is capable of producing 20 000 seeds, however up to 50 000 have been recorded for a single plant. Giant Hogweed can be found flowering from June to August, with seeds being released from late August each year.
The Ryning Palace (Ryningska palatset), was begun by the capable Erik Ryning in the 1640s to the design of Simon de la Vallée. As the architect died within only a year, however, large parts of the palace were not completed until 1770, many years after the death of the original proprietor and in an apparently different style than the older parts. The new proprietor Gottfried Sackenhielm used part of his palace to run a tavern and a brothel, frequently visited by many notable men of the era, including the still popular troubadour Carl Michael Bellman. Following the death of Sackenhielm, the property was taken over by Johan Bergstrahl, who, except giving parts of the block their present names, raised the activities in the buildings to an unprecedented level, introducing social clubs, newspapers and café's. Today the building is occupied by the Supreme Court and the Labour Court.

I got a 10-20mm lens back in February and have had so much fun seeing what it's capable of. This shot was taken with the wide angle at 10mm, the shot below was taken with my 24-70mm lens (standing at the same spot).
I like both shots for different reasons, but I was really excited to be able to get the entire waterfall in my shot with the wide angle!
Fielded late into the First Colony War, the Velites became the CSA's primary space-use Kampfer. Equipped with the latest state-of-the-art reactors, Velites units were capable of insane speeds, and are generally considered the fastest space-faring unit fielded during the war. The Velites did not fare so well in environments with gravity, however, due to their excessive armor and fuel storage.

Standard-issue Velites A-types had a rather small arsenal to choose from, due to the declining resources of the CSA. Each unit used a long-range beam rifle, a medium-length heat sword, and a small shield, in addition to two head-mounted machine guns.

Gelgoog much?
This guy may not look it, but it's actually just a heavily modified Perditrix! The core frame is pretty much exactly the same, except I added an extra two studs to the torso's width and used different knee joints (the old ones couldn't handle the weight). Also, in my endless efforts to add an extra touch of realism to my builds, this guy has a few little hatches on him that open up for maintenance. I labeled all of them (in notes) on the open hatch picture if you're interested. Also he's got tons of thrusters. Two on the feet, four on the legs, four on the back skirts, two on the chest, two on the shoulders, and two under the cockpit. Fits a fig as always, and has a pilot winch.
A planetary dropship in service with the Rigellian Space Navy. Capable of hauling a variety of heavy cargoes to and from orbit, it is pictured here carrying a universal APC ready for deployment.
Designed to drop men and materiel at high speed into hostile environments, the dropship is equipped with an air-to-ground rail gun on the starboard airfoil and a rotating turret on the port side to engage close range targets. The central, high mounted cockpit affords the two crewmembers a commanding view of the battlefield; whilst the overpowered reactor permits rapid descent and ascent back to orbit.

In 1960, the United States Army issued Technical Specification 153 for a Light Observation Helicopter (LOH) capable of fulfilling various roles: personnel transport, escort and attack missions, casualty evacuation and observation.
The aircraft entered service in 1966, arriving in the Vietnam War thereafter. The pilots dubbed the new helicopter Loach, a word created by pronunciation of the acronym of the program that spawned the aircraft, LOH (light observation helicopter).
The OH-6 set 23 world records for helicopters in 1966 for speed, endurance and time to climb.
Do people even read descs anymore? Anyways I thought I'd make a Cayuse as it's a much lesser done heli and that's what I prefer. Tail was tricky to get how I wanted as it's a very different shaping than many others but I'm happy with what I came up with and its very adaptable. This isn't just my "Little Bird" made dark green, it's a total new build and design concept in every area compared to my other helicopters. On the rotor area I managed to get another use out of a wrench lol..love those things! Used hands to give the blades a yellow tip and it works well especially keeping the blade thin as possible and extending its length that bit more which was needed. This started as a table scrap when I was bored and decided I wanted to try out some tech to see if I could get the legs area much better then id previousky done as i was never happy using the robot arms as the curve was just wrong and using other straight parts looked ok but meant the helicopter needed additional support just to sit, that wasn't what I wanted but I also didn't want the helicopter to sit very high compared to a fig when standing next to it as despite knowing figs are out of scale themselves I still think it's Important to try keep builds small as possible while still being fig compatible. I got what I wanted in the end and at the same the found a way to have a windshield added without needing the use of a traditional hinge plate which sometimes isn't made in some colours or is very expensive even in colours like tan. So I worked around all that so it didn't matter. Internally more work went on then I thought to get this shaped but still strong. Hope you enjoy the build.
This being made in dark green made it an extra tough build as certain parts just don't cone in that colour at the moment. That was the extra challenge I set myself.
Sometimes the Acorn Woodpeckers drop their acorns, and the jays get a free snack. The jays aren't as capable as the woodpeckers at taking acorns off the trees, so they wait for them to be dropped.
While I await the delivery of a new “professional” camera, I aim to explore just how capable an iPhone is – especially for macro photography. Shot on an iPhone 15 Pro Max, there’s plenty of power, even when exploring more technical subjects such as ultraviolet fluorescence.
Plants in the allium family vary vastly in the size of their blossoms, from the gigantic “big ball” alliums to the more subtle wild onions, such as this. While the wide-angle lens on the iPhone 15 series is certainly capable of getting up close to them, the resolution is lower than the main camera. This is one of the reasons to look at the iPhone 16 Pro models, which improve the macro capabilities with a higher-resolution sensor for the wide-angle camera; There are, however, other ways to improve your game. I use the Moment 75mm add-on lens which significantly improves the magnification of the main camera, allowing me to shoot 48MP RAW files.
48MP RAW from a phone isn’t the same as 48MP RAW from a larger sensor on a traditional interchangeable lens camera, but it does offer more flexibility. Better ability to crop into the frame, better dynamic range, and better colour correction than would otherwise be afforded by shooting with more “basic” modes. I believe the default camera app now allows you to choose this, but I prefer Halide for many other bits of additional control as my camera app.
The image is shot in a dark room, with UV flashlights aimed at the subject. The exposures can be a little lengthy, so a 3-second timer is helpful to touch the camera lightly and then give it time to settle before the exposure starts. A simple Bluetooth camera trigger works to make this more instantaneous, and only costs a few dollars. You still want the camera to be rock-solid steady and easy to position, so a good holder is essential. The best I’ve tried is this one from Platypod: www.platypod.com/products/platypod-grip
Post-processing to get the most out of these images has a few tricks, mostly to bring out the hidden colours in some parts of the flower. Allium flowers fluoresce mostly into the blue spectrum, with yellow-green pollen and stems. In order to make sure that these colours (other than blue) are properly represented in the final image, I employ a one-two punch: sway the white balance to be warmer (slightly diminishing the blue), and then increase the vibrance and saturation to re-balance the colour palette. The blue will come back, but so will the other colours that were less prominent. White-balance corrections are far more powerful when shooting in a RAW format.

Old vs. New
A perilous desert expedition calls for a capable vehicle.
Of all the incredible vehicles that the Adventurers theme gave us, I feel that one of the most overlooked is the truck from 5988. The box art suggests that it might belong to Baron von Barron, but I like to think of it as the larger companion to the Scorpion Tracker, providing some much-needed cargo space.
This is a revamp I’ve wanted to do for quite some time, and I’m very proud of how this came out. My version keeps a few iconic parts, such as the two-seater cab, the classic front grille, and the same rugged wheels, perfect for navigating the harsh desert landscape. There is still plenty of cargo space in the back for hauling crates, artefacts, or your fellow Adventurers if they don’t mind a slightly cramped ride.
Design-wise I wanted to make the truck a little more accurate to the 1920s, but I still wanted to maintain a certain level of late 90s Lego charm, so I tried to limit my usage of ultra-modern parts. Ultimately I’m really happy with how it turned out.
A bloomery is a type of metallurgical furnace once used widely for smelting iron from its oxides. The bloomery was the earliest form of smelter capable of smelting iron. Bloomeries produce a porous mass of iron and slag called a bloom. The mix of slag and iron in the bloom, termed sponge iron, is usually consolidated and further forged into wrought iron. Blast furnaces, which produce pig iron, have largely superseded bloomeries.
A bloomery consists of a pit or chimney with heat-resistant walls made of earth, clay, or stone. Near the bottom, one or more pipes (made of clay or metal) enter through the side walls. These pipes, called tuyeres, allow air to enter the furnace, either by natural draught or forced with bellows or a trompe. An opening at the bottom of the bloomery may be used to remove the bloom, or the bloomery can be tipped over and the bloom removed from the top.
The first step taken before the bloomery can be used is the preparation of the charcoal and the iron ore. Charcoal is nearly pure carbon which, when burned, both produces the high temperature needed for the smelting process and provides the carbon monoxide needed for reduction of the metal.
The ore is broken into small pieces and usually roasted in a fire, to make rock based ores easier to break up, bake out some impurities, and (to a lesser extent) to remove any moisture in the ore. Any large impurities (as silica) in the ore can be removed as it is crushed. The desired particle size depends primarily on which of several ore types may be available, which will also have a relationship to the layout and operation of the furnace, of which there are a number of regional, historic/traditional forms. Natural iron ores can vary considerably in oxide form (Fe2O3 / Fe3O4 / FeO(OH) ), and importantly in relative iron content. Since slag from previous blooms may have a high iron content, it can also be broken up and may be recycled into the bloomery with the new ore.
In operation, after the bloomery is preheated typically with a wood fire, shifting to burning pre-sized charcoal, iron ore and additional charcoal are introduced through the top. Again, 'traditional' methods vary, but normally smaller charges of ore are added at the start of the main smelting sequence, increasing to larger amounts as the smelt progresses. Overall a typical ratio of total charcoal to ore added will in a roughly one-to-one ratio. Inside the furnace, carbon monoxide from the incomplete combustion of the charcoal reduces the iron oxides in the ore to metallic iron without melting the ore; this allows the bloomery to operate at lower temperatures than the melting temperature of the ore. As the desired product of a bloomery is iron which is easily forgeable, it requires a low carbon content. The temperature and ratio of charcoal to iron ore must be carefully controlled to keep the iron from absorbing too much carbon and thus becoming unforgeable. Cast iron occurs when the iron absorbs 2% to 4% carbon. Because the bloomery is self-fluxing, the addition of limestone is not required to form a slag.
The small particles of iron produced in this way fall to the bottom of the furnace, where they combine with molten slag, often consisting of fayalite, a compound of silicon, oxygen and iron mixed with other impurities from the ore. The hot liquid slag, running to the bottom of the furnace, cools against the base and lower side walls of the furnace, effectively forming a bowl still containing fluid slag. As the individual iron particles form, they fall into this bowl and sinter together under their own weight, forming a spongy mass referred to as the bloom. Because the bloom is typically porous, and its open spaces can be full of slag, the extracted mass must beaten with heavy hammers to both compress voids and drive out any molten slag remaining. This process may require several additional heating and compaction cycles, working at high 'welding' temperatures. Iron treated this way is said to be wrought (worked), and the resulting iron, with reduced amounts of slag, is called wrought iron or bar iron. Because of the creation process, individual blooms can often have differing carbon contents between the original top and bottom surfaces, differences that will also be somewhat blended together through the flattening, folding and hammer welding sequences. It is also possible to produce blooms coated in steel (higher carbon) by manipulating the charge of and air flow to the bloomery.
As the era of modern commercial steelmaking began, the word bloom was extended to another sense referring to an intermediate-stage piece of steel, of a size comparable to many traditional iron blooms, that was ready to be further worked into billet. wikipedia
🔥🔥🔥: This is the SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket, capable of producing 5 million pounds of thrust, launched Friday at 11:04pm (ET) sending the Echostar24 / Jupiter3 satellite on its way to a geosynchronous orbit 22,000 miles above the Earth.
These images were captured by sound-activated cameras left near the pad Wednesday, where they endured storms and were triggered Thursday night during the Starlink launch. In other words, I had very low expectations for what I'd find on the memory cards.
Because of occasional schedule conflicts I often rely on others to retrieve my gear. For these cameras, Joe Marino checked on my gear Friday and retrieved them earlier today (Saturday). He's great, and his images are always excellent.

A glass-walled cable car capable of holding 65 people, runs along a 1,400 m (4,600 ft) route between the peaks of Sugarloaf and Morro da Urca every 20 minutes. The original cable car line was built in 1912 and rebuilt around 1972–73 and in 2008. The first cable car goes from a ground station, at the base of Morro da Babilônia, to Morro da Urca at a height of 722 ft.and the second to Sugarloaf's summit at 2,790 ft. Total lift time is 3 minutes.
Introducing Saturn Corporation's brand new transformable mobile frame! This frame is capable of long distance flight, along with the ability to function as a mobile frame unit. It's equipped with two missile pods that are usable in flight mode or deployed as a frame. Because this frame is only a prototype these heavy missile pods are it's only armaments.
Although this new release comes at a harsh time for Saturn, their last frame The Revival peaked interest in investors enough that Saturn is no longer in danger of bankruptcy, their new Revival frame however was defeated by the ODUS-4 in armed combat. The ODUS-4 did not get off unscathed, it was left in critical condition, and as to not give away any secrets of the frame, activated a self destruct. Its sacrifice was worth the it in the end though, the reward was Saturn's embarrassment to more potential investors. Most importantly ODUS' death reveals, a puppet master with a strong influence and unseen resources. As things unfold a new company emerging from the shadows. A company known as Vera Industries.

Capable of leveling entire mountains, the Pahrak work to level the land itself. With the ability to trigger localized earthquakes and legs that allow them omni-directional burrowing, no irregularity is safe.
Although KITT is perfectly capable of operating autonomously, Knight Rider had a cast that viewers loved as much as they loved the car (well, almost as much).

The Zuritanian military issued a brief for a VTOL fighter, capable of operating off small warships to provide flexible coverage. Lazy aircraft designers decided, rather than building a whole new airplane, to simply take the fuselage of the widely-produced Skyrocket and simply add new engines. The resulting aircraft featured a finicky set of four rotating nozzles along the bottom, which flipped between vertical and horizontal orientations to allow for vertical takeoff. It was too slow for supersonic flight, and after a series of accidents during testing the navy withdrew their interest. The air force considered it briefly, to provide a backup in case its fixed air bases were destroyed. But they, too, rejected it, after realizing its poor performance rendered it almost useless in air-to-air combat. The Pogo found halfhearted interest in Eclusa, which purchased 20 of the jets to station in temporary airfields across Brohemia. Eclusa planned to use them as attack aircraft, since their basic construction would allow them to be operated from extremely primitive bases. But the end of the Great Rodinian War and the collapse of Monsaraz removed the threat that had spurred such a purpose. The Pogo will likely continue to languish until it can find a market: at press time, the designers are reportedly trying to sell it to Mekong.
Yeah, I built this a few months ago, but I never rendered it. I'm still not super happy with it. But here you go. If anyone wants production rights you can have them.

The aye-aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis) is a lemur, a strepsirrhine primate native to Madagascar that combines rodent-like teeth that perpetually grow and a special thin middle finger.
It is the world's largest nocturnal primate, and is characterized by its unusual method of finding food; it taps on trees to find grubs, then gnaws holes in the wood using its forward slanting incisors to create a small hole in which it inserts its narrow middle finger to pull the grubs out.
From an ecological point of view the aye-aye fills the niche of a woodpecker, as it is capable of penetrating wood to extract the invertebrates within.
The aye-aye is the only extant member of the genus Daubentonia and family Daubentoniidae. It is currently classified as Endangered by the IUCN.
The aye-aye is an arboreal animal meaning that it spends most of its life high in the trees. Aye-ayes sleep, eat, travel and mate in the trees and are most commonly found close to the canopy where there is plenty of cover from the dense foliage.
Aye-aye are solitary animals that mark their large home range with scent. The smaller territories of females often overlap those of at least a couple of males. Male aye-ayes tend to share their territories with other males and are even known to share the same nests (although not at the same time).
Early Years
For as long as Roger could remember he’d had a sword in his hand, training from near birth to be a capable swordsman and live up to their family heritage and words, fame through valor. Any time the young man wasn’t training he was down at Duskendale’s harbor learning how to sail, as the heir apparent to the Darklyn house his education wasn’t neglected but it was clear he favored combat and tactics to words and diplomacy. When he was old enough he would join his Uncle Steffon as his squire learning the workings of the King’s Guard and training among some of the best in the Kingdom. Being a squire for his uncle put him in close proximity to Visery’s I Targaryen as well as other members of the royal family if only in passing. He traveled much of the crownlands during this time, spending a significant amount of his teenage years in Dragonstone or King’s Landing. Roger would spend a lot of his free time outdoors in both locations being especially fond of gardens. He was charming and charismatic, training out of adoration for his Uncle more than a need to actually fight. He would often joke about joining the Kingsguard himself and letting his brother take his place as Lord of Duskendale but his father would never allow such a thing to happen.
Dance of Dragons
When the Dance of Dragons began Roger would flee King’s Landing with his Uncle, two stewards, four guardsman, and Viserys’ Crown bringing them to Dragonstone to join Rhaenyra and be present for her coronation. It was shortly after that he would be knighted by Lord Commander Steffon Darklyn. Not long after his father Gunthor was beheaded during the sacking of Duskendale and his Uncle would die at the maw of Seasmoke. These tragedy’s would shape the young Lord’s personality going forward. The young bright eyed boy who wanted nothing more than to join his uncle at the side of the Queen was gone. He became cold, his temper would run as hot as the fire that killed his idol. He grew callous and his tongue as sharp as his blade when it came to tearing down those he found to be inferior to him. He drowned himself in his training, mastering the blade as best he could. He pushed his body to the limit building his strength and brawn until he became as tall and unyielding as Dun Fort atop its hill. He joined the Black armies in battle fighting across the crownlands and learning at the side of older commanders how wars were waged. The war was short but harsh leaving him weathered and aged beyond his young years. His personality quickly twisted into one of arrogant ambition and fierce determination, the handsome young man considered himself beyond reproach and he hungered to make a name for himself. The Darklyn’s had fallen far in the Dance and he alone could lead them back to the fame and valor of their birthright.

Roger had grown into a stoic young man, tall and wide as a galleon, the imposing figure had a face that was nearly always twisted into a scowl or smiling with an air of superiority. His dark raven hair swept over his head and his eyes sitting dark in their hollow sockets. Even before the winter Roger felt cold, always cold and uncomfortable, even though his skin was hot to the touch he would wear furs over his shoulders and keep his hair long to cover his ears. Following the Dance, Roger would return home to Dun Fort and consolidate what remained of his banners and people. The harsh cold years would do little to cool his disposition and the arrogant young lord would fight through the winter years leading his people to rebuild his burned harbor, his fleet, and his forces. As far as he was concerned Aenar was a consolation prize, it was his Mother that Roger, Steffan, and Gunthor had sword fealty to. He would honor those oaths for now but his bitterness at the green houses was far from faded and that growing resentment drove him to amass and consolidate his forces as fast as possible for what he hoped would be a reckoning of punishments levied onto the traitorous houses that had stood against Rhaenyra’s proper claim to the throne. Now the year was 135 and the King was throwing the Maiden’s day ball and one that Roger was keen to attend, he needed a wife and heirs as soon as possible and he was determined to levy for a position in the King’s new Court.

Herbie the Love Bug is a fictional sentient anthropomorphic 1963 Volkswagen Beetle, a character that is featured in several Walt Disney motion pictures starting with the 1968 feature film The Love Bug. He has a mind of his own and is capable of driving himself, and is also a serious contender in auto racing competitions.

The black crowned crane is a stately, elegant bird covered with black or nearly black plumage. There are white and gold sections on the wings, and white and red skin patches on the face in the back of the eye. A small gular pouch beneath the head is capable of producing booming noises when inflated. The head is graced with a golden crown. The legs and feet are black. This crane stands approximately 104 centimetres, with the male slightly larger than the female. Black crowned cranes will form flocks during the dry season, but are territorial while nesting.
Black crowned cranes are true omnivores and will literally eat anything small enough that is unable to escape it. The cranes will eat vegetative matter such as seeds and fruit as well as insects, snails, and small vertebrates such as lizards, amphibians, crabs and snakes.
These cranes prefer to live close to water sources such as lakes and marshes, but they will tolerate drier conditions if necessary. The wet season is also the breeding season for the cranes, generally from May through November or December. Black crowned cranes prefer to nest near water, and will construct their nests out of rushes or grasses. Up to 5 eggs will be laid, and both parents will participate not only in incubation, but also in rearing the young. The male crane will often keep a lookout for danger from the vantage of a tree, alerting his family with a call if he detects an intruder.
Black crowned cranes face many threats to their existence, generally because of human activities. Habitat loss and destruction are probably the worst, with the draining of wetlands curtailing not only feeding areas but nesting grounds. The cranes are also subject to damage by industrial development and pollution, and increased agriculture. The construction of dams destroys the shallow water that the cranes depend upon for food – they are unable to hunt for food in water that is over 1 meter deep. The heavy use of pesticides has had a dramatic negative impact on crane populations, and these birds are also still subject to hunting. The drought that has plagued this part of Africa for years is also affecting the numbers of black crowned cranes.
Although black crowned cranes have received official protection in the countries in which they are found, enforcement of the protection is nearly non-existent.

The Masai giraffe, also spelled Maasai giraffe, or the Kilimanjaro giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis tippelskirchi), is the largest subspecies of giraffe and the tallest land mammal. It is found in Kenya and Tanzania.
The Masai giraffe has jagged spots on its body. It also has a short tassel of hair on its tail. The bony outgrowths of the male's skull superficially provide the appearance of up to five ossicones. The dominant male's spots tend to be darker in colour than those of other members of its herd.
Adult males usually reach around 5.5 m in height—although they have been recorded at reaching heights of up to 6 m—and females tend to be a bit shorter at around 5–5.5 m (16–18 ft) tall. Their legs and necks are both about 2 m (6 ft 7 in) long, and their heart has a mass of roughly 12 kg (26 lb).
No breeding season is noted for the Masai giraffe. Females typically can breed from the age of 4. They give birth standing up. Giraffes give birth after 2–6 hours of labor. About 50–75% of the calves die in their first few months due to predation. Though many calves die, the mothers stab predators such as hyenas or lions with their sharp hooves. This can critically injure or kill a predator quickly; the Masai giraffe's kick is strong and is capable of crushing a lion's skull or shattering its spine. - Wikipedia

Flying squirrels are not capable of flight like birds or bats; instead, they glide between trees. They are capable of obtaining lift within the course of these flights, with flights recorded to 90 meters (295 ft). The direction and speed of the animal in midair are varied by changing the positions of its limbs, largely controlled by small cartilaginous wrist bones. The wrist is connected to the styliform cartilage, which forms a wing tip used during gliding. After being extended, the wing tip may adjust to various angles, controlling aerodynamic movements. The wrist also changes the tautness of the patagium, a furry parachute-like membrane that stretches from wrist to ankle. It has a fluffy tail that stabilizes in flight. The tail acts as an adjunct airfoil, working as an air brake before landing on a tree trunk.
The colugos, Petauridae, and Anomaluridae are gliding mammals which are similar to flying squirrels because of convergent evolution. These mammals can glide through the trees, but they do not actually fly (like birds and bats). They have a membrane of skin on either side of their body.
Prior to the 21st century, the evolutionary history of the flying squirrel was frequently debated. This debate was clarified greatly as a result of two molecular studies. These studies found support that flying squirrels originated 18–20 million years ago, are monophyletic, and have a sister relationship with tree squirrels. Due to their close ancestry, the morphological differences between flying squirrels and tree squirrels reveal insight into the formation of the gliding mechanism. Compared to squirrels of similar size, flying squirrels, northern and southern flying squirrels show lengthening in bones of the lumbar vertebrae and forearm, whereas bones of the feet, hands, and distal vertebrae are reduced in length. Such differences in body proportions reveal the flying squirrels’ adaptation to minimize wing loading and to increase more maneuverability while gliding.
Several hypotheses have attempted to explain the evolution of gliding in flying squirrels.One possible explanation is related to energy efficiency and foraging. Gliding is an energetically efficient way to progress from one tree to another while foraging, as opposed to climbing down trees and maneuvering on the ground floor or executing dangerous leaps in the air. By gliding at high speeds, flying squirrels can rummage through a greater area of forest more quickly than tree squirrels. Flying squirrels can glide long distances by increasing their aerial speed and increasing their lift. Other hypotheses state that the mechanism evolved to avoid nearby predators and prevent injuries. If a dangerous situation arises on a specific tree, flying squirrels can glide to another, and thereby typically escape the previous danger. Furthermore, take-off and landing procedures during leaps, implemented for safety purposes, may explain the gliding mechanism. While leaps at high speeds are important to escape danger, the high-force impact of landing on a new tree could be detrimental to a squirrel’s health. Yet the gliding mechanism of flying squirrels involves structures and techniques during flight that allow for great stability and control. If a leap is miscalculated, a flying squirrel may easily steer back onto the original course by using its gliding ability. A flying squirrel also creates a large glide angle when approaching its target tree, decreasing its velocity due to an increase in air resistance and allowing all four limbs to absorb the impact of the target.
The jumping spider family (Salticidae) contains more than 500 described genera and about 5,000 described species, making it the largest family of spiders with about 13% of all species. Jumping spiders have some of the best vision among invertebrates and use it in courtship, hunting, and navigation. Though they normally move quietly and fairly slowly, most species are capable of very agile jumps, notably when hunting, but sometimes in response to sudden threats. Both their book lungs and the tracheal system are well-developed, and they use both systems (bimodal breathing). Jumping spiders are generally recognized by their eye pattern. All jumping spiders have four pairs of eyes with particularly large anterior median eyes.

Grumpy is one of the seven dwarfs in Disney's 1937 film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. True to his name, Grumpy is grouchy, pessimistic, & overbearing, and often depicted with a scowl and crossed arms to accentuate these qualities. Underneath his gruff exterior, however, Grumpy possesses a warm heart but seldom chooses to show it. And, aside from his demeanor, he is perhaps the most capable and competent of the dwarfs.

I have finally managed to grab some decent shots of an experimental electric-drive battery powered carbon fibre bus that lives local to me.
RX15HSU is a 'Bristol Superlight' built by the Frazer-Nash Research company based in Farnborough, Hants. The bus was first registered on 28/08/2015 and I've been after a decent shot of it ever since!
Their concept bus is kitted out to B27D layout and weighs in at just 3.5 tonnes, its revenue weight listed as 4840kg. It carries a 1.0L engine which is used to recharge the lithium batteries and as such the bus is marketed as ultra low emission / zero emission capable.
I grabbed some shots of the bus when it was out on a demonstration run on 02/03/2017.

I MAY have this habit of taking nude self portraits in the middle of the forest. TOTALLY an everyday normal thing. I saw this tree hollow in the middle, covered in moss and I just couldn't help but take a photo with this beautiful tree! It was damp and muddy but still it was something worth it. Good thing there weren't any leeches at that time or else there would have been leeches on my ass and I wouldn't even know it.
But over all this place is magical! And needs to be visited again real soon by me!

For many years, the Rossendale 'Estates' services were in the capable hands of the fleet of East Lancs-bodied Leopards and in this March 1988 view of the one-time highest numbered vehicle in the fleet (a feature it relinquished in 1985 after the arrival of the first coaches), 70 is making the turn into Todd Carr Road, Waterfoot, before heading around the Edgeside Estate and then continuing its journey towards Bacup. Britannia was the former terminus of the route, but by now had been extended to Bacup, Burnley and after Deregulation, to Todmorden. However, it was customary for some of the longer-serving drivers to display intermediate destinations, as seen here.

Changing pace from huge bears and muskox, here's a baby Spruce Grouse. Amazingly, Spruce Grouse chicks are capable of short flight at the tender young age of 6 days. We were very surprised to see this youngster and its siblings flutter up to perches as we approached on the trail near Anchorage, AK

A Rockwell CZ53 personal minigun is capable of firing 5mm ammunition at over 60,000 RPM[1] with an ammo capacity of 120x 5mm round. The CZ53 personal minigun makes up for the small 5mm round by sending a hail of bullets toward its target. Its sheer size, coupled with its trademark sound, is enough to send anyone in its path running for cover. It's a great weapon for suppressing fire, letting others flank the unsuspecting enemy.[2] When the Great War struck, it was already an aging design and was slowly being replaced by the more advanced CZ57 Avenger minigun.[3] Later models of the CZ53 have six barrels linked into pairs, with four barrels on top and two on the bottom, a cage underneath the weapon to hold an ammo box containing 240 5mm rounds, and used in combination with a backpack. The first model was the favorite weapon of the Mariposa super mutants during the Unity's time.

The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk is a carrier-capable ground-attack aircraft designed for the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps.
The delta winged, single-engined Skyhawk was designed and produced by Douglas Aircraft Company, and later McDonnell Douglas. It was originally designated the A4D under the U.S. Navy's pre-1962 designation system.
The A-4 is a compact, light-weight design with a maximum takeoff weight of 11,100 kg. With a top speed of more than 970 km/h, its performance is compromised by its small size. The aircraft's six hardpoints support a variety of missiles, bombs and other munitions. Power is provided by one 9,300-pound-force (41 kN) Pratt & Whitney J52.
Backstory-
Cooper Stone was just a homeless man living on the grimy streets of New York when he was suddenly kidnapped by an evil corporation. He was subject to horrifying tests that destroyed his internal organs and altered his genetic structure.
