The same shot taken a few minutes earlier than the one I uploaded yesterday, with a different processing method. I decided to try tone mapping using Photomatix for once.
This is my first attempt trying Photomatix, and I am impressed. Photomatix is a software that can create HDR photos. I have tried the photoshop HDR function and it didn’t work nearly we well. (Or maybe I just didn’t know how to use it properly… which more likely the case) Anyway, Photomatix brought out the colors (look at that blue) and was very simple, fast, and user friendly. Anybody who wants to give it a shot can click on the link for a trial version here:
I personally prefer the natural look over HDR most of the time. WIth this HDR image, I tried making it look as natural as possible. What do you guys think?

Meerkerk is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Zederik, and lies about 9 km north of Gorinchem.
Not much is known of Meerkerk's early history. According to municipal sources, the town was first mentioned in a clerical document, written in 1266 or 1267AD. The origins of the name 'Meerkerk' (Literally translated: 'Lakechurch') are unclear, though it is probable it derived from 'De Kerk bij het Meer', meaning 'The Church by the Lake', referring to several small strips of land called 'Het Meer' (The Lake).
In the early centuries of its existence the village played an important role in regional traffic, due to its favourable location by the river Viaanse Vaart. During the French occupation of the Netherlands in the early 19th century Napoleon Bonaparte ordered the construction of a major road connection between Paris and Amsterdam, passing through Meerkerk as well. According to local legend, the emperor himself once spent some time in Meerkerk during an official visit to the Netherlands. The main road was made by the army of Napoleon, and it was the first road of stone in the region.
Meerkerk was a separate municipality until 1986, when it became part of Zederik.
Since 1886 the Zederik Channel passes the town, maintaining Meerkerk's importance to regional traffic. By the end World War II the municipality expanded its borders, giving the population a chance to increase to some 2500 souls.
everything is this compact town is so perfect – the Market Square, the Cathedral, the numerous parks all look as if they were crafted by artists of note, which they were!
The city is very well preserved and clean to boot. It is almost like a stage set, nay, make that a movie set, perhaps a Disney flick?
Every window has lace curtains and flower boxes with geraniums, all the buildings are in good repair, and the architecture is infinitely interesting. Low-country designs of the Middle Ages were a matter of pride; every detail down to the outline of a window frame is beautifully proportioned.
In the heart of the downtown, motor vehicles are prohibited, except for deliveries during restricted hours, making it one of the easiest walking cities of the world, safe and well-signed. The winding cobbled streets, adjacent to the canals, are shared by pedestrians and the occasional horse-drawn carriage. Sweepers follow the horses and keep the streets litter free.
Restaurants serve authentic Belgian cooking, a strong rival to French cuisine, as well as numerous international style dishes. Fresh fish, cooked a thousand different ways, is plentiful, as are beautiful homegrown vegetables. Of course, this country is famous for its chocolate, a worthy choice for dessert. My own personal favorite Belgian meal is carpes frites plus pommes frites, which would be called ‘fish and chips’ anywhere else, but is in fact a perfect delicacy here in Bruges.
Bedankt voor jullie steun tijdens deze niet gemakkelijke dagen.
Ik zal proberen de draad weer wat op te pakken, maar ben er zelf nog niet veel op uit geweest om nieuw materiaal te schieten.
groet jaap
I turned around a corner to this view and had to work extremely quickly to capture the scene - one of the brightest rainbow's I've witnessed as it was lit by the low sun.
'Het Speulderbos' is called ' the forest of the dancing trees'. The forest is not just mysterious, it is also very rare. It's a paradise for birds (of prey), deer, badgers and wild boars. So there is enough choice to have a good time!
I was by the castle and waiting and waiting on the sun who did not come.
After one hour I had enough from waiting and I took a few shots with my canon 5d mark2 and my canon 17-40 lens from the castle.
Back home I used photomatix 5.04 for the shots and I must say I was impressed. I hope you like it.
Tillegem castle
Most likely it was Baldwin the Iron Arm, first count of Flanders, who constructed a wooden tower surrounded by battlements close to where the current castle now stands. After the count the castle came into the hands of several families. The families Voormezele, Hubrecht, Aertrijcke, Pinnock, Baents en Poucke were all owners of the castle through out centuries. In 1573 it became property of the Spanish merchant Matanca. He remodeled the castle in the same style as the Counts castle in Malle. The foundations and some other parts of the first castle are still visible. The family Schietere bought the castle in 1664 and through marriage it became property of the family Bailly in 1718. At the end of the 19th century the castle was sold to M. de Penaranda de Franchimont. He restored the castle completely in neo gothic style. Architects Bethune & van Assche preserved the middle-age look of the mighty castle in their restorations. The Counts of Briey and the Barons Verhaegen were the last private owners of the castle. Since 1980, the castle and beautiful park are property of the Province of West Flanders. The castle cannot be visited however the park is open. At the moment the castle has no function, hopefully soon it will be opened to the public.

Crepuscular rays can be formed by shadows on thin fog or mist, here the dark hedge provides a good contrast for the sunlit fog. Although the rays appear to be diverging to the left it is easy to see that they are really travelling parallel with the narrow lane.
The leaves casting shadows are much further away than the pools of light at the end of the shafts of sunlight. Because of this perspective and the low sun the illusion of diverging rays is still strong.

The tide rises, the tide falls,
The twilight darkens, the curlew calls;
Along the sea-sands damp and brown
The traveller hastens toward the town,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
Darkness settles on roofs and walls,
But the sea, the sea in the darkness calls;
The little waves, with their soft, white hands,
Efface the footprints in the sands,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
The morning breaks; the steeds in their stalls
Stamp and neigh, as the hostler calls;
The day returns, but nevermore
Returns the traveller to the shore,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
This photo is named ”The grey mass”. You know, the big mass of people who live their lives on a scheme, in locked positions. Everyday looks pretty much the same. Wake up, go to work, eat, watch television, sleep. Over and over again, on repeat, with expressionless faces. I guess we all live that life sometimes, some more than others.
When was the last time you did something for the first time?
This photo is the first in a series and also the start of a collaboration between me and Beata Rydén.

The Autumn light has been very beautiful lately if quickly gone! This is the last rays of light falling on the small settlements at the top of Little Langdale.

Modern mechanized hay production today is usually performed by a number of machines. While small operations use a tractor to pull various implements for mowing and raking, larger operations use specialized machines such as a mower or a swather, which are designed to cut the hay and arrange it into a windrow in one step. Balers are usually pulled by a tractor, with larger balers requiring more powerful tractors.
leskensgraaf is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Molenwaard, and lies about 10 km northeast of Dordrecht. It has an area of 1272 hectares. On 1 January 2009 Bleskensgraaf and Hofwegen had 2797 inhabitants in 936 residences.
Until 1855, Bleskensgraaf was a separate municipality. In 1855 the municipality Bleskensgraaf and the heerlijkheid or seigniory 'Hofwegen' merged into one municipality named 'Bleskensgraaf and Hofwegen'. In 1986 it became the new municipality Graafstroom together with 6 adjacent towns. The town hall of Graafstroom was located in Bleskensgraaf. Since 2013 Graafstroom has made part of Molenwaard.
The town got its name because of the landlord (count) "Willem van Blassekijn". Over the years the name Blassekijnsgraeve changed into Bleskensgraaf.
The centre of Bleskensgraaf is made up out of new buildings. The old centre was bombarded during the Second World War at 06:25 on 12 May 1940. Seven people died and forty houses were destroyed. The town hall was leveled and the church sustained irreparable damage. The reconstruction was fast and took a couple of years. In September 1948 the new church officially opened and the new town hall opened on 12 May 1955.
Old buildings that remain are a couple of windmills: flourmill 'Molen de Vriendschap' (Mill the Friendship) built in 1890 and two Hollow post mills, named the 'Hofwegense Molen' and the 'Wingerdse Molen' built in 1513 and many old farmhouses.

Manhattan is the oldest and the most densely populated of the five boroughs of New York City. Located primarily on Manhattan Island at the mouth of the Hudson River, the boundaries of the borough are identical to those of New York County, an original county of the state of New York. The borough and county consist of Manhattan Island and several small adjacent islands: Roosevelt Island, Randall's Island, Wards Island, Governors Island, Liberty Island, part of Ellis Island,[1] Mill Rock, and U Thant Island; as well as Marble Hill, a very small area on the mainland bordering the Bronx. The original city of New York began at the southern end of Manhattan, expanded northwards, and then between 1874 and 1898, annexed land from surrounding counties.
The County of New York is the most densely populated county in the United States, and one of the most densely populated areas in the world, with a 2008 population of 1,634,795[2] living in a land area of 22.96 square miles (59.47 km²), or 71,201 residents per square mile (27,485/km²). It is also one of the wealthiest counties in the United States, with a 2005 personal income per capita above $100,000.[3] Manhattan is the third-largest of New York's five boroughs in population, and its smallest borough in size.
Manhattan is a major commercial, financial, and cultural center of both the United States and the world.[4][5][6] Anchored by Wall Street in Lower Manhattan, New York City vies with the City of London as the financial capital of the world[7][8][9][10][11][12][13] and is home of both the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Many major radio, television, and telecommunications companies in the United States are based here, as well as many news, magazine, book, and other media publishers.
Manhattan has many famous landmarks, tourist attractions, museums, and universities. It is also home to the headquarters of the United Nations. It is the center of New York City and the New York metropolitan region, hosting the seat of city government and a large portion of the area's employment, business, and entertainment activities. As a result, residents of New York City's other boroughs such as Brooklyn and Queens often refer to a trip to Manhattan as "going to the city",[14] despite the comparable populations between those boroughs.
The Virginia Destroyers beat the defending champion Las Vegas Locos 17-3 in the United Football League (UFL) championship game on Friday night (10/21/2011), played before a crowd of 14,172 at the Sportsplex in Virginia Beach.
Of a small settlement to the Ee in the 10th century it developed into an important city, where trade, industry and fishery thrived. By growing prosperity and look to the commonalty of Zierikzee on March 11th 1248 municipal right was granted king. After the medieval flowering period calamity emergency with fires, shipping disasters, epidemics and floods followed.
The 17th century characterised himself by second flowering of the trade and fishery. Then the number of inhabitants stepped very drastic in the course of the 18th century stagnation and decreased. The large industrial developments went to Zierikzee past for the greater part. In contrast to other cities old buildings remained saved. The wealth to monuments is mainly considered as a precious possession and in 1970s has been discovered by the tourists.
Nowadays Zierikzee is, with wide 10,000 inhabitants, the administrative seat of the new and has in this a centre function. In the historical town centre with a lot of shops and sociable pavements it is for both the tourist and inhabitant well stays.
