Shot spotted and captured for Saturday Self Challenge - 30/12/2023 ----------Seasonal !!
Well , this giant Candy-Cane is stuck in the middle of Leatherhead in between Sainsburys and Costa-Coffee .
Just before Christmas I popped into Leatherhead and was struck by the lack of any decorations in the town centre - until I got to this part of the town and there this was , a great big Candy Cane Archway tall enough for people to walk under .
Update , as of 29th this is still in situ glittering away - from the bow you can just see the power lead supplying the power to all the flashing lights !!
I must admit this is such an odd thing and looking at the photo one might think this has been added in post processing - not so , the shot has been cropped square , a touch of sharpening and contrast and a frame added ---- the rest is SOOC !

The little lighthouse at bamburgh on stag rocks. We were treated to some lovely candy floss pinks in the reflected sunrise sky on Sunday. It felt great to be back out for a sunrise after such a long time.

When we travel about adventuring Anita is Always prepared. She brings a cooler with water and a different assortment of food. We will never again find ourselves lost in the fog on the edge of a cliff in a national forest without food to sustain us. And in emergency situations like that there should always be plenty of chocolate and other sweet things to sustain one through tense moments of sheer terror while trundling along on the precipices of one track gravel roads, hence she includes a bag of chocolates and other kinds of sweet things. On this day she had a sweet tooth calling for something pepperminty and thought perhaps this piece would fit the bill perfectly. Not so! Turns out this beautifully twisted bit of sugar was nothing but ... well, twisted sugar with little to no flavor at all! It was banished to the trash bag and life went on without peppermint. It was the great disappointment of the day I can assure you! ;)

This is a five-image composite manually focus stacked in Gimp. Two Nikon SB900 speedlights were used, both with snoots. The first had a blue Rogue gel attached and was aimed at the skull in the background. It was 30-degrees CR and 18" above camera position, pointing down at the subject from a distance of 2' and @ a 45-degree angle. It was fired in Manual mode @ 1⁄32 power. The second SB900 was aimed at the candy. It was 45-degrees CR, 2" above camera level, 18" from the subject, and was pointed down at a 30-degree angle. It was fired in Manual mode @ 1⁄64 power.
Both speedlights were triggered by three PocketWizard PlusX's.

Candy Burst is a fine leaf variety of Callistemon bottlebrush. It produces gorgeous, dark pink flowers in spring.
Here we see flowers in bloom and buds yet to open.
This plant and all my other bottlebrushes are visited by hundreds of native bees when in flower.
I'm not one for vibrant colours in the garden, but I made an exception here and planted this so my daughter could see it in flower from her bedroom if she happens to be visiting home at that time. She adores bright colours and we lovingly call the bush her 'Hi 5 tree' as a tip of the hat to a favourite childhood program she loved to watch that was full of music, song, dance and bright colours.
Callistemon is a genus of shrubs in the family Myrtaceae and the genus is endemic to this country.
Bottlebrush flowers are famous for their bright, brush-like spikes. These are actually dense clusters (inflorescences) of many small flowers. The vibrant parts are not petals, but numerous, long, colourful stamens surrounding a single central carpel.

The multicolored geography near Hanksville, Utah almost looks like some kind of candy on this aerial view.
Melinda dreams of a snowy world filled with candy canes... Perhaps she will get some of those traditional sweets for Christmas? ;)

These two were my second favorites. I flavored the fondant for the candy cane with LorAnn peppermint oil. I cut out a white and a red candy cane, dusted the back of the white with cornstarch & stacked them, then cut diagonally through both so I ended up with two candy canes in one swipe. The holly on the candy cane and the wreath are from a lovely mold (one of those yellow ones from England I bought from Diane Gruenberg at OSSAS this year - so easy to work with). I wasn't too pleased with the wreath bow, but let it go. Thanks for looking!
Ok, so it’s really not the “Candy Cane Lighthouse”, but I had to work a Christmas theme in somehow😁! This is the West Quoddy Head Light Station and it is the easternmost building in the United States. The present light station includes a tower, former keeper's quarters, service building and oil house. The tower is circular and is 49 feet (15 m) in height, with the beacon at 83 feet (25 m) above sea level. The light, magnified by a third-order Fresnel lens, has a range of 18 miles (29 km). The tower is built of brick and painted in alternating horizontal red and white (candy cane😁) stripes. A small gabled entry vestibule, also brick, projects from the tower. The keeper's house is a wood-frame structure, 11⁄2 stories in height.
