In the Allan Conservatory of Toronto.
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Disappointed with the provincial public health policies or lack there of, I decided to record one aspect of our health care system which will retain its beauty for a long time to come, namely the architecture of its fine hospitals. I took a Sunday walk along a stretch of the University Avenue where at least 5 major hospitals are located, depending on how you count them, and took some shots. This is No. 1 of the Hospital Walk Series. The Princess Margaret Hospital has been renamed The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in keeping with its function. Part of the University Health Network, it is affiliated with the University of Toronto and is now the largest cancer centre in Canada and one of the largest 5 in the world. The cancer centre has several new and modern looking extensions to the old building, but in my eyes this one built in 1915 is the most appealing. Photo best viewed in large.

Elicio Ember has created something unique again... this time, compared to his flourishing fantasy landscapes and organic structures, "Halls of Story" is more traditionally "building-like", but breathtaking all the same. A library of enchantment and magic.

Dear fellow photographers,
Photography is one of my real passions, another one being my work: running a research lab. Indeed, I am heading a research lab at the University of Montreal, where I am also associate professor. We are part of the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC), and we are studying how cancerous cells move (‘migrate’) to colonize new tissues and form metastases. The image here is a confocal microscope image of fruitflies ovaries, one of our favorite model.
I am posting this as I will participate in a fund raising event for my institute. For this I engaged myself to run 5 km and to raise money. If each of you, friends, followers or fellow photographers would participate, I would certainly reach easily my objective. I understand that not everyone can afford helping, but I still hope that the magic of social networks will operate and that we will raise a significant amount. Indeed, this is of high importance as the funding situation is getting really difficult in Canada. Our institute is focusing on cancer research, from fundamental research to direct applications for patients. All the donations are used for research and only for research.

Chers amis photographes,

It is indeed. I needed cancer to understand this.
"What if that moment I walked the sands I wasn't able to really see where I am, where I am walking and where I am heading. What if that moment I didn't imprint in my memory my life as it was then?
The future is now, the future is never, there is only
now."

Katie Couric was honored by the University of Chicago Cancer Research Center this evening at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago for her tireless work in cancer research and awareness. Her husband, Jay Monahan, died 12 years ago from colon cancer; her sister Emily did from a form of cancer also. Much of Katie's charitable work (including her founding the Entertainment Industry Foundation's National Colorectal Research Alliance in 2000 and helping to launch The Jay Monahan Center for Gastrointestinal Health at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center in 2004) is inspired by them. She is seen here posing for pictures before the start of the ceremony.

I had my head shaved today. All of these wonderful people I know were the ones who donated $1,500 for children's cancer research! I'm so ecstatic! So yeah, I finally did it. I'm bald. I love it. Thank you sooo much to everyone who donated or simply shared my links about it. You all are beautiful souls.

I'm working w/ the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) over the next year to help document and share their amazing stories of cutting-edge cancer research and treatment. I'm going to be photographing events, building a photo archives, creating patient and; doctor stories and other creative storytelling projects that arise. This weekend I attended the Swim Across America and The Pink Boat Regatta. I'll be back down next month to photograph the #PurpleStride marathon and a bunch of other cool community initiatives.
