This past weekend we heard about the cancelled Airdrie Air Show that was going to take place in Springbank instead. Not much notice, but we're glad we made it happen. The Skyhawks are always very good. The claimed reason for the cancellation of Airdrie was due to the new runway at Calgary International. Wonder if that means Airdrie will never have the air show again.

Since April 10, more than 3,500 troops from 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (5 CMBG) are in the Gagetown Garrison training areas (N. B.) for Exercise LION INTREPIDE, and will remain there until May 9, 2012. With its diverse terrain, Gagetown Garrison provides the troops from Valcartier with a different training environment and a vast training ground. Exercise LION INTREPIDE 2012 allows the units from 5 CMBG, and affiliated units, to renew with different war concepts that concentrate on more classic military techniques. This reorientation is essential in order to prepare the soldiers to carry out future combat missions, humanitarian aid, peacekeeping and other types of mission.

On Saturday, I saw the Canadian Forces Snowbirds Demonstration Team (431 Squadron), a Canadian icon comprised of serving members of the Canadian Forces. I also saw a lot of sea gulls by the lake and couldn't help marvelling at how manoeuvrable they are in the air and how effortlessly they fly. For all of our techno wizardry, we have yet to create a wing a marvellous as that of a humble bird's.

The Museum's Tutor entered service with the Canadian Armed Forces in 1965. It spent most of its career at CFB Moose Jaw in Saskatchewan, attached to No. 2 Flying Training School and was retired along with the rest of the fleet in 2000. The Museum acquired this aircraft from the Department of National Defence in September 2005.

HMCS Fredericton
HMCS MONTREAL sails in the sunrise off the Atlantic seaboard on 20 November 2005. A zodiac, with members of HMCS FREDERICTON, head for HMCS WINDSOR, a VICTORIA Class submarine to exchange passengers during Canadian Fleet Operations. HMCS FREDERICTON and MONTREAL are participating in the exercise along with other Canadian and American naval vessels.
The purpose of the exercise is to enhance operational readiness of the Task Group with support air assets by conducting unit and fleet level combat readiness training along the Atlantic seaboard waters of Canada and the United States.

On the 17th of April 2012, troop 3 of the 52nd squadron of 5 CER built an Acrow bridge. The assembly took many hours, demanded a lot of team work and precision.

Durant l’exercice LION INTREPIDE, plusieurs scénarios sont créés pour améliorer les performances de nos militaires. Un des scénarios, pour la 5e ambulance de campagne, impliquait plusieurs blessés pour tester les médecins et techniciens médicaux. L’équipe de l’UPS 4, sous les ordres du Dr Eyestone, attaché au 2e Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment, ont montré leur brillante performance et ont montré un standard élevé de soin. On a pu voir que la santé de nos militaires est sous les meilleures mains.

During the exercice LION INTREPID, many scenarios are created to enhance the performance of our soldiers. One of the scenarios, for the 5th field ambulance, included many wounded to test the doctors and medical staff. The UPS 1 team, under the orders of Dr Eyestone, attach to the 2e Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment, showed their amazing work and a high medical standard. We can see that our soldiers health are in the best hands.

Lieu (à venir), le 31 janvier 2012 - Les troupes de la compagnie de services installent la cuisine de campagne là où les troupes du 12 Régiment blindé du Canada ont érigé leur campement.
D’une ampleur inégalée depuis 2006 pour le 5e Groupe-brigade mécanisé du Canada, RAFALE BLANCHE 2012 regroupe plus de 3000 soldats et 700 véhicules militaires répartis dans 6 municipalités régionales de comté (MRCs). Les soldats arpenteront ainsi les MRC de Beauce-Sartigan, La Nouvelle-Beauce, Les Appalaches, Les Etchemins, Lotbinière, et Robert-Cliche.

19. jūnijā, Ādažu bāzē notiks svinīgā NATO paplašinātās klātbūtnes Latvijā kaujas grupas sagaidīšanas ceremonija, kurā piedalīsies arī Latvijas, Itālijas un Kanādas Bruņoto spēku komandieri.
NATO paplašinātās klātbūtnes Latvijā kaujas grupu vadīs Kanāda, un to veidos vairāk nekā 1000 karavīru no Albānijas, Itālijas, Kanādas, Polijas, Slovēnijas un Spānijas.
Pērn NATO samitā Varšavā NATO valstu un valdību vadītāji apstiprināja vienošanos par daudznacionālo bataljona līmeņa kaujas grupu izvietošanu Igaunijā, Latvijā, Lietuvā un Polijā. Kaujas grupu izveides un izvietošanas mērķis ir veicināt NATO īstenoto atturēšanu un stiprināt alianses aizsardzību.

The Griffon is the military version of the Bell 412 - Canada ordered 100 helicopters in 1992 - they were produced by Bell Canada in Montreal between 1995 and 1997-

Hatley Park is located on traditional territory of the region’s First Nations people. The land is within the area defined by the 1850 Douglas Treaty with the Teechamitsa people. Today, the Songhees, Esquimalt, Scia’new and T’Sou-ke First Nations may have members who are descendants of the Teechamitsa.
The history of the site is one of transition. In the late nineteenth century, Englishman Roland Stuart operated a farm named Hatley Park on the land. He also tapped the springs for a water supply business.
In 1906, coal baron James Dunsmuir, former premier and lieutenant governor of British Columbia, bought the property with his wife Laura. The formal gardens and Hatley Castle, a 40-room mansion designed by noted architect Samuel Maclure, were completed three years later.
The surviving Dunsmuir daughters sold the estate to the Government of Canada in the late thirties. Shortly after that sale, the government established a training college for the Royal Canadian Navy. The college had several names during its 55-year history. In 1968, it was re-named Royal Roads Military College and given a mandate to educate and train officers for the Canadian Forces. Roads is the historical name for a naval anchorage. Waters south-east of Hatley Park are named Royal Roads.
The federal government closed the military college in 1995. The Government of British Columbia leased the site to establish Royal Roads University that same year and the first programs were launched by university in the fall of that year.
Today Hatley Park is considered one of the finest examples of an intact Edwardian estate. In 2001 the federal government designated Hatley Park a National Historic Site.
