May the maple leaf always fly high and proud, symbolizing the strength and unity of our nation. Wishing you a day filled with joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories! Taken last year as I don't have much time this year to celebrate.
A very different Canada Day today, most outdoor celebrations have been cancelled including the fireworks show. I imagine most people will be staying close to home this year or enjoying the local lakes, beaches and parks.
A ship sails through the Narrows, an iconic Newfoundland landmark. It will be Canada day on July 1st. A day we all can celebrate in this great country
The only sunny highlight of my day as cloudy skies with periodic rain showers claimed the rest of the Canada Day celebrations at the rodeo and It has been pouring for days. (Insert eyeball roll here) I don't know about other people but I have had enough; time to make hay! Thankfully, this baby poked its head out briefly as if to say, "Canada eh?" Mama grebe had two newborn chicks when I left with two eggs still needing to hatch. If the weather clears I will get back there to check out how the family is doing. I know, you are thinking, "But where are the baby Loons?" Sadly, my Loons never had a successful hatching this year due to a bad windstorm that damaged the nest so I made lemonade and found this pair of Red-necked Grebes instead and have been waiting in anticipation for this day. Normally, I can't get near grebes them being amazing, expert divers and only having a 300mm lens. I have watched this new couple from the beginning battle it out and win for territorial position, then build their sturdy nest at the far end of the lake in a quiet location away from boats. Hopefully I will find loon babies at other lakes someday soon this summer, if not, there is always next year....as they only lay one set of eggs. Needless to say, this was taken from my trusty Yak!
I was hoping to tweak a few things for the Canada Day Fireworks this year. Sadly, there will be no fireworks this Wednesday night. I worked this photo last year, but didn't get around to posting it. I will edit a few more in the next few days just because.

We are not a perfect country. Sometimes we need to reflect. Sometimes we need to do better. But we have lots to be proud of and we are still one of the best countries in the world. So Happy Canada Day everyone.
Climbed Mount St Helens on Canada Day. It was a pretty special climb for several reasons. 1) I climbed it with a friend I've known for almost 30 years, 2) It was my 20th summit of this mountain, 3) It was Canada Day!
Sorry to post and run, I will be back soon to visit everyone's photostreams and comments.

Some people don't like it, but I don't mind the smoke that accumulates as the evening wears on.

No sooner had I sat down on nice bench nearby when an idiot with a massive sound system decided to settle next to us. So we caught the bus home for some peace and quiet.
This girl is under NO ILLUSION where she wants to live and which country she chooses to celebrate this weekend.

well, the weather is perfect today for celebrating Canada's 150th birthday, and I'm sure there is going to be a lot of serious partying, there's one starting right in front of this flag festooned carport, lots of drinking, bullshitting and laughter, but then that's every weekend at my brother-in-law's place :)
Back to fireworks for a day. I'm sure there will be more concert photos before long.
