There is something in the chaos of torrents of water that is so calming for the mind.

This is a horned grebe in winter clothing. I gotta say, their breeding plumage is pretty wonderful, but I thought this guy looked kind of elegant floating in the blue waters of Canyon Lake. But kind of a freakishly red eye, huh?

Sunshine and calm return to the forest, after a prolonged battering by wind and rain. The soils and the vegetation are saturated, loading the air with moisture. Although it was burning off quickly as the Sun rose, there were some great light and shadow plays to enjoy.
