Calla Lily with Sandstone Texture

Calla

Calla palustris. Circumboreal with a distribution that includes the northeastern United States, but mainly in Canada and Alaska in North America in bogs, marshes, pond edges, etc. (not known from the western United States, although it once might have been).

Known also as Water arum and Wild calla

My Last Cake for Cake Class. The four months went by so fast. :(

Three-Times Vanilla: Vanilla Cake with Vanilla Pudding in the center of each layer, and iced in vanilla frosting.

While I was thinking about the cake concept for what to do with my last cake, I decided I wanted something Summery, but didn't know what. Then, totally by accident, I saw a tutorial online about how to make Calla Lilies (one of my three favorite flowers!) and decided right then that I would make a Calla Lily cake.

If I had had a taller cake, I could have had a better cascaded effect, but I worked with what I had, and I'm pretty happy with this cake.

Scattata all'orto botanico di Padova

At my uncles home they had a wonderful area in the front with dozens of beautiful Calla Lilies. They were always something you would walk by and take a second look at because they added so much beauty to the front of the home.

I spent a full day going around looking for fun new plants/locations to experiment with and thought, "what better thing to photograph?" The image turned out beautifully with the spiral right down to the center in perfect focus with the dark leaves in the backdrop.
