Calix, another of Evan's friends. I'm pretty impressed that he stayed up on that thing long enough for me to take this.
"One of the most interesting aspects of my research this year in Belgium has been the opportunity to enter the archives and read directly the medieval sources. In the United States, medieval handwritten documents in libraries tend to parts of special collections, manuscript witnesses of well-known, important or unique literature specially purchased from European vendors some time in the past. Access to medieval books is difficult; requests must be submitted for viewing particular documents and reasons must be given why the document must be handled in person, rather than via digital images usually available online. Libraries are (understandably) reluctant to give access, and when access is given it is usually access to the less spectacular witnesses."

"Weâve seen people leaving Syria, going through France, thousands of them. We never thought weâd see thousands of people leaving Honduras at the same time. But, if you all go together, you donât pay smugglers, and itâs safer..
.
I lived in a really dangerous neighbourhood. Really dangerous. Lots of my friends were killed..
.
The first three times I got up to Laredo. Then I went on the train, on top of the train, up to Mexicali. All in all, I went six times, I was deported five times..
.
The last time I got homesick, I decided to come back here, to eat beans..
.
But, itâs hard here, economically. .
.
I was lucky to survive it, I saw someone killed in front of me, I was with this guy from Choluteca, we were tired, it was six in the morning, we hadnât slept much, we were perched in between the train wagons, he slipped off and went straight under the wheels. God knows how many people have died on the journey, and plenty come back with limbs missing. Another time I saw someone reach out for a mango from an overhanging tree, the train was full, 60 people on top of each wagon, we were hungry, so he reached out, he slipped, he went between the wagons, landed on his teeth, he was dead straight away..
.
One time I nearly died myself. I was travelling between Nayarit and Guadalajara. I was on the train and I touched a high-tension cable, it just brushed my face, burned me, two Mexicans stopped me from falling off, they grabbed my legs. Iâve never been closer to death. I have never got on a train again. .
.
I have done training with the Lutherans on their programme for returned migrants, I am making a living painting now, painting houses and businesses, and doing signwriting."

"The swastika is a holy symbol in Hinduism, Jainism, Heathenry and Buddhism. In the West, it is more widely known as a symbol of Nazism.
The motif seems to have first been used in Neolithic Eurasia. However, it was also adopted in Native American cultures, seemingly independently. The swastika is used universally in religious and civil ceremonies in India. Most Indian temples, weddings, festivals and celebrations are decorated with swastikas. The symbol was introduced to Southeast Asia by Hindu kings and remains an integral part of Balinese Hinduism to this day, and it is a common sight in Indonesia. The symbol also has an ancient history in Europe, appearing on artifacts from pre-Christian European cultures. By the early 20th century it was widely used worldwide and was regarded as a symbol of good luck and auspiciousness."
