American Fork High School calculus teacher Melody Apezteguia (ah-pesta-jee-ah) was named Utah’s 2016 Teacher of the Year. Krista Thornock, an eighth grade language arts and history teacher from Centennial Middle School in Provo, was named first runner up. Lois Faber, a music teacher from EskDale High School in EskDale in the Millard School District, was named second runner up.
The three teachers and all district teachers of the year were honored at a banquet at the Double Tree Suites Hotel in Salt Lake City and presented with a gift from O.C. Tanner Company as well as a gift basket from Great Harvest Bread Company, and a water filter from All Filters, and a one-year SMART Notebook classroom license from SMART Technologies.

[Note]: Math has always been a tough subject for me. It’s boring and incredibly complex for my brain. Taking Calculus was hard as fuck and the information was not easy for me to understand. Our Professor is also stern and wants to challenge her class. I did everything in my power; spent extra time on the information, reviewed my notes 100 times, didn’t go to parties, didn’t hang out with friends, didn’t gossip, didn’t watch hours of TV, asked classmates for help, asked the Professor if she had some time for questions (before class, after class, during office hours), read the information slowly and with intention (trying to understand it the best i can). I ended up getting a B+ in the class, which is SUCCESS in my opinion. and yes, i got A’s in every other class. I’m still stupid and broke.
