Inspired by a post on Lifehacker, I decided to tackle the ugly, nasty, dirty mess of cables under my desk.
After all day of cleaning, organizing wires, mounting the rack...the finished result.
A similar cable management problem existed on the floor (above the rug) with power strips, ethernet cables, etc. The solution was to buy two power strip concealer boxes from BlueLounge. These things are great, shoebox-sized opaque plastic boxes that allow you to store away your sins...
Here's the finished view of the rewiring project for my old home theater in Jackson. I moved the projector to the back of the couch and added a couple of gaming/movie chairs to the mix. Subwoofer amps in corner run a boxed pair of covered subs in opposite corner and a thin set of boxed 15 inch subs behind the sofa. §the gaming chair are also self amplified and have small subs. The chairs are on quick connects for ease of installation and removal. I eventually broke down and bought a Pioneer VSX grade home theater receiver with internal r-g-b switching to replace the blue dialed RCA POS HTIB that I picked up at Walmart. It then got relegated to the outdoor deck and patio home theater equipment. The big feature for me was that it had line level subwoofer outputs and I have a LOT of subwoofer amplifier inputs. LOL. Enjoy.
Home Theater equipment. Backside wiring. The front of the equipment faces the couch for control, but this leaves the ugly backside wiring visible. Need to add iPod Video and laptop input as well. The plan is to move it to whole coffee table to the wall and move the projector to the wall above the couch where the dog is laying. You gotta love the way I got that center channel speaker zip tied to the frame of the coffee table! That's a UPS battery backup hanging on the end to keep the projector bulb from going dark without proper cooling if the power goes out unexpectedly. Bulbs are $200 to replace, so I wasn't taking any chances. I got a LOT more cavalier about my projectors the longer I had them. This is the HD Benq PB7200. I started with an XVGA PB6200 which also served me well. Both have ran their bulbs to the end of their life cycles now and I am considering an LED projector replacement instead of buying a new bulb.

Putting a wooden desk out in the middle of the room and then throwing computers/montiors/etc on top of it means cable management problems. I went to the hardware store and bought a cheap shower rack, hacksawed the shelves off, and bolted them into the underside of the desk. Voilà! Instant cable control and/or fire hazard.

Como empezó todo …
Madrid, 7 de enero de 2010. La historia de Geanet OnDemand comienza en 1996, cuando un grupo de ingenieros e informáticos liderados por Adrián Martínez Maldonado, trabajando dentro de Sun Microsystems (creadores de Java) y bajo el lema “The Network is the Computer”, se dan cuenta de cómo Internet está revolucionando el paradigma del software y lo difícil que es desarrollar e integrar aplicaciones empresariales.
Sobre una filosofía cliente servidor, en 1997 se crea la versión FrameWork iKernel 1.0 (Internet Kernel) que tiene como propósito la construcción de un “Frame Work” que consigue la creación de aplicaciones sobre tecnologías Microsoft (ASP y .NET), Java y GNU Software, permitiendo desarrollar cualquier aplicación y funcionar sobre las plataformas más extendidas del mercado.
Se funda Cross World, S.L, en 1998 (empresa de consultoría informática y soluciones de negocio) donde se finaliza el FrameWork creando la primera “Suit” de “Soluciones Empresariales” bajo la marca de ePortal (eBusiness Portals), pero se ofrece sin coste como parte del servicio de Consultoría.
En 1999 se vende la primera versión de Soluciones ePortal sobre tecnología Java, Microsoft y PHP permitiendo construir Intranets y Portales Web. Rápidamente, la buena aceptación de esta tecnología, recibió cientos de solicitudes de ampliar funcionalidades e integrar nuevas aplicaciones.
En 2000 se crea la tecnología WebBlocks, que permite crear aplicaciones a través de descripción de sentencias sin necesidad de tener que programar en ningún lenguaje, lo que multiplica por 10 la evolución de ePortal y cambiando la estrategia del desarrollo de aplicaciones a la creación de soluciones empresariales. Durante los años 2001 a 2003 aparece la marca GeaNET (Gea=tierra /Net=Red, conexión) y sale al mercado GeaPortal (Intranets), GeaSales (CRM), GeaECM (Enterprise Content Managment), GeaHR (Gestión de los recursos humanos) y empresas como BBVA, Price Water House, BSCH, Sun Microsystems o Grupo Prosegur se convierten en clientes que permiten ampliar las capacidades y evolucionar hacia una filosofía de “Enterprise Solutions”.
En 2004 nos dimos cuenta del gran coste de mantenimiento de la tecnología Microsoft, Java y Software GNU, junto con la problemática que implicaba la infraestructura que los clientes debían tener (había proyectos que se retrasaban meses sólo porque no tenían Servidores o Software o Firewalls ...), nos condujo a realizar un viaje a San Francisco para entrar en contacto con Salesforce.com, y Geanet se convirtiera en Geanet OnDeamand ofreciendo nuestras soluciones en modelo SaaS y adelantándonos 6 años al paradigma del Cloud Computing.
La primera versión de Geanet OnDemand aparece en 2005, lo que supuso un enorme esfuerzo de evangelización y explicación de las ventajas de este nuevo modelo. Geanet OnDemand se empieza a integrar con otras soluciones como Salesforce.com o Google ampliando las capacidades funcionales de la solución y desarrollando las capacidades de los módulos de CRM, ERP, Business Intelligence o BPM.
Adysa Consulting se convierte en la primera consultora de integración de Geanet OnDemand y se crea el primer equipo de C+SaaS (Consulting + Software as a Service) para apoyar a los clientes en el paradigma de incorporar soluciones IT en sus organizaciones. Geanet OnDemand lanza en 2007 la primera Suite 360º en modelo SaaS conectando todas las áreas de una organización: Dirección General, Marketing, Comercial, Recursos Humanos, Calidad, Financiero, Logística ...
En 2008 se firma el contrato con la Multinacional NTT Communications para que sea el proveedor que proporcione la capa de seguridad física y gestión de la infraestructura multi-usuario permitiendo a Geanet OnDemand poder tener representación en America, Asia y EMEA (Europa, Medio Este y África). A finales de este año, se firma el acuerdo con AT Internet para añadir como módulo la solución de Online Intelligence a los productos de GeaECM y Geanet Intranet, imprescindible para que los clientes puedan tomar decisiones sobre su estrategia OnLine.
En 2009 se crea con Microstrategy el módulo SaaS de Business Intelligence, añadido a la plataforma Geanet OnDemand y ofreciendo la solución integrada con los otros módulos de ERP y CRM por un coste de lanzamiento 40 veces más económico que modelos tradicionales. Geanet OnDemand añade además a su estrategia SaaS el modelo PaaS (Platform as a Service) permitiendo a los clientes construir sus propias aplicaciones empresariales.
En 2010, Geanet participa en la creación de Eurocloud y SaaS Network, como referentes en España del “Cloud Computing”. Se firma con Polymita, la creación del módulo SaaS Geanet BPM proporcionando un escalón más a nuestros clientes, e introduciéndoles en la gestión de información basada en procesos. A finales de este año, se firma un acuerdo para que KPMG y Grupo Everis entren en el Consejo Asesor de Geanet OnDemand para diseñar una expansión internacional.
Y durante todos estos años hemos sido fiel a una idea: “La tecnología no es lo importante, sino lo que las personas pueden hacer con ella mejorando y creciendo como seres humanos”.

the right rack was all switches when I started. once cable management is in there I'll work on replacing patch cables. granted, it's all live.
