CSM Vega hails from Salinas, Puerto Rico. He is the youngest of six siblings. Following his high school graduation in 1981, he enlisted in the Army as a Personnel Administration Specialist.
His assignments include 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry, Fort Bliss, Texas; 3-12th Cavalry, 3rd Armored Division, Germany; 10th Transportation Battalion, Fort Eustis, Virginia; Readiness Group Puerto Rico, Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico; Senior Drill Sergeant, 1-28th Infantry (BCT); ANCOC Small Group Leader, NCO Academy, SSI, and S3 NCOIC, Training Support Battalion, SSI, Fort Jackson, SC. He also served as the First Sergeant for U.S. Army NATO, Armed Forces South, Naples, Italy, as the Battalion Executive Officer, U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas, as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major, Headquarters Battalion, Fort Belvoir, Virginia and as the Garrison Command Sergeant Major for the Fort Myer Military Community consisting of Fort Lesley J. McNair, DC and Fort Myer, Virginia.
His awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (7 OLC), the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Drill Sergeant Badge, the Kosovo Campaign Medal, the NATO Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and induction into the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.
CSM Vega’s military education includes the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic and Advanced NCO course, Drill Sergeant Course, Master Fitness Trainer Course, Instructor Training Course, Small Group Instructor Training Course, Staff and Faculty Development Course, First Sergeants Course, the Garrison Command Sergeants Major Course and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 52. CSM Vega holds an Associates of Arts degree from Central Texas College and a Bachelor of Science from Excelsior College.
