If anyone is having trouble getting a sleepless night then worry no more, from now on your nights shall be sleepless.

But in all seriousness, apolagies if this creeps you out, i've not spoken to a single person who doesn't get freaked out by these monkeys.

I've always wanted one. Being from the 50's/60's from Japan they are quite hard to come by in good condition. Not long ago I found one in great condition, imported from America and then put into storage. Still works and everything, cost me a fortune but the posabilities for photos like this are endless.

I did a few more last night but I think this one works best for identifying the subject. The rest looked great but had a few too many rotations for clarity.

This was shot with 4 rotations lit with my iphone from the left hand side at 1 second bursts. Cropped in photoshop.

More to follow soon.

Enjoy....or not in this case.

Been experimenting rotating my light blades the past three nights, really enjoying this CRT and have plenty of ideas for it. These are some of my favourites from the past few nights. SOOC apart from a crop.

Camera Rotation Tools have been around for a while now, and some fantastic imagery is being produced by some very talented light painters.

For those who don't know what a camera rotation tool (CRT) is, it is a device that allows the camera to be turned 360 degrees in a circle while on a tripod allowing you to create some pretty cool patterns. Although this technique could be achieved in photoshop easily in seconds that just not how light painters like to play.

I've been wanting to build one for ages but never got around to it, the time is finally here and I have built one. This is my first test shot from the CRT mk1 after shooting this I made some much needed adjustments making it easier to shoot, allowing more shots per rotation and improved stability.

The shot here was a single exposure and stopped 4 times while I lit myself. The angles were 0/90/180/270 at this point I had to guess the angles but I did an ok job. I capped the lens while the camera was actually rotating as not to let in any stray light and mess with the exposure.

Pictures like this are great because they have so many levels, every time you look you may see something slightly different deeper in the image. Obviously in this image we can just see my mug and BB8 t-shirt, but a starting point at least.

Next I will be testing the mkii and testing out it's new capabilities adding more rotations per shot and so on.

Enjoy and expect to see more CRT soon.

Chicago Rapid Transit (CRT) #5001 [ex Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) #51, exx CTA #5001, nee CRT #5001} is in repose at the Fox River Trolley Museum. Shortly before the car was retired in 1985, it was repainted to mimic the original stainless steel in which it was delivered. This paint has faded badly and the car has not operated in many years. Sister car #52/5002 is stored at Illinois Railway Museum.

Both cars, built by Pullman-Standard, were part of an experimental order of four articulated rapid transit cars using PCC car technology. The other two cars, #s 54/5003 and #54/5004, were built by St. Louis Car Company. They have since been scrapped.
