To gauge how big the cross is, that is a 6ft tall man near the base.

Cross Orbweaver with a HUGE web stretched across my bog garden. It was anchored to cattails on one side and a Japanese maple about 4 feet away on the other. The fog, morning dew, and canna lily leaf just made it all that much neater.

I shall start with Religion since it underpins much of ancient society and much of today's activities as of the year 2014. I chose the cross because I was raised on broadly Christian principles, which I think have served me well, but I am not a committed church attendee.
For me, religion is both a great provider of moral compasses for people to live their lives, whilst at the same time, being full of much nonsense and wild tales without any real substance.
Do I believe in God? Well, yes of a kind. I believe 'something' created this Universe - it is too amazing to have happened by itself. But there might be many Gods. My own personal favourite idea is that there are lots of 'Gods' up there all competing to create the most effective life form - and they all tease each other when one life form does something clever to evolve. The creator of the dinosaurs is still licking their wounds whilst the ant maker is jumping around with glee at their continued proliferation! And I find myself wondering what must the creator of humans be thinking right now?
But religion seems to be used by many people as a crutch to manage their existence. And that's fine - but don't be drawn into religion just because others follow it. Keep your own counsel and decide what feels right. My personal belief is that nobody - absolutely nobody - has any clue why we are here and those that claim to know, are simply frauds of fantasists whose description of 'miracles' is wanton deception to try and fund their lifestyle.
I am sure there were people called Jesus and Mohammed back in ancient times - and they were very noble and clever people - but I have doubts that they ever witnessed miracles or saw God himself.
