I'm taking a Basic Photography class, and it's pushed me to explore subjects that are outside my comfort zone. In working on a Night Photography assignment, I went to explore the small town of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. What I found delighted me: the work of a graffiti artist sharing messages of hope and unity, gifts greatly needed in these turbulent times. One work included the words, "You belong here," and another is shown in this image, "Cosmic Love." This artist is doing their best to Shine a Light in the world, and I'm just passing it along.
After all it's up to you to set the mood. Start with an hour, then get to a day and eventually you will realize that most of the things throughout the years were exactly what you wanted them to be.
Have a happy happy day!

The front view of SkyTerrace @ Dawson reminds me of the Tetris game. Taken slightly before sunrise with the stars clearly visible even with the light pollution giving this scene a cosmic feel.

Where dreams and metal collide
I walked by this stump a few days ago. It was a sunny afternoon. There was nothing really special about it at first glance, but I thought maybe it could be a part of something bigger.
I set an alarm for 2:30AM and returned later that night. At that serendipitous moment in time, you could see the Milky Way floating vertically overhead, perfectly aligned with that same unspecial stump. The foreground was lit by a rope of white and purple lights. It was a marriage of man, nature, and the heavens.
I unfolded my tripod and took a picture. After some time, the sky moved and the moment passed.

This Cosmic Cat is out of this world! His fur is dancing with colorful psychedelic designs and his eyes look like they could hypnotize you in a heartbeat. On my website I provide a fun drawing lesson about how to draw your own cosmic cats!

This image shows the inner part of our galaxy, which hosts the largest and densest collection of giant molecular clouds in the Milky Way. These vast, cool clouds contain enough dense gas and dust to form tens of millions of stars like the Sun.
The composite image includes data from the Goddard-IRAM Superconducting 2-Millimeter Observer, ESA’s Herschel satellite, the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope near the summit of Maunakea, Hawaii, and radio observations from the National Science Foundation’s Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array, located near Socorro, New Mexico. The resulting image essentially color codes different emission mechanisms.
Blue and cyan features reveal cold dust in molecular clouds where star formation is still in its infancy. Yellow features, such as the Arches filaments and the Sagittarius B1 molecular cloud, reveal the presence of ionized gas and show well-developed star factories; this light comes from electrons that are slowed but not captured by gas ions. Red and orange regions show areas where high-speed electrons spiral in a magnetic field, such as in the prominent Radio Arc and Sagittarius A, the bright source at the galaxy’s center that hosts its supermassive black hole.

"Cosmos is a Greek word for the order of the universe. It is, in a way, the opposite of Chaos. It implies the deep interconnectedness of all things. It conveys awe for the intricate and subtle way in which the universe is put together.” Carl Sagen
I'll be exhibiting some of my underwater images at the Biscuit Factory in Edinburgh, opening this Saturday, with fellow Scottish photographer Kerry Lytwyn, they will be up from the 5th-18th of July :)

Cosmic Leaf Under Water
Today took this image of the leaf under water in the creek at camp. Kind of looks cosmic around of leaf under the water to me. With the other leaves collected around it, I walked the creek as far as I could go the water was high because we had much rain this last few weeks. Saw many deer and raccoon and hog tracks in the creek sand ..I love looking at the animal tracks. Animals love walking the creek too. Tonight at camp built a fire outside and heard coyotes howling as the sun was setting..Too cool. Oh yes when sun went down an Owl hooted in the distance, A good day and evening

Equinox Aurora over Lake Michigan (9/20/2015)
(Hemispheric power peaking @ 58.95 Gigawatts)
On the night of September 20th, an M2.0 class solar CME sparked aurora that was powerful enough to be seen in the Northern portion of the Continental United states.
I was quite fortunate to experience a deep black cloudless night sky, and captured many beautiful images of the aurora peeking out from the northern horizon over Lake Michigan.
When the Aurora shines through the clouds, or drifts up from the horizon, there is an intoxicating feeling you get from its beauty, it's like staring at the flames rising up from a bonfire in the darkness of night. You see massive portions of the night sky flicker with the dull green glow of lightning fast rippling sheets of light, moving like the shape shifting camouflage of an octopus. Long morphing rivers of green, blue, red, yellow, purple orange and white light slowly flow and change shape over the course of a couple of minutes, with the same unpredictability as a stream of electricity jumping from one Tesla coil to another. Ghostly towering thin ribbons of light protrude hundreds of miles up into the darkness of space. creating what looks like a gigantic moving Gothic cathedral of lights and colors all around and above you.
Earth becomes the test vehicle in a cosmic wind tunnel, with wind in the form of a heliospheric current sheet testing the magnetic drag coefficient of her polar caps.

For new viewers: these are analog images formed directly on to film without the use of a camera lens (in the same way as a photogram), of the refraction patterns of light passing through formed and shaped plastics. Normally a b/w image, colour has
been added directly into the plastic. The fine detail of the diffraction patterns and the rainbow colours can be seen when viewed large.
