Edge is a performance piece, inspired by moons of the solar system and incorporating sounds from space. It combines the poetry of Katrina Porteous, the music by Peter Zinovieff and the planetarium visuals by Chris Hudson in the Centre for Life's planetarium.

It was performed as part of the British Science Festival in Newcastle this week and was recorded by Radio 4 for broadcast on December 15th as part of Poetry please.

We say the lightning ‘seeks’ the easiest path to ground.

We say the lightning ‘follows’ the easiest path to ground.

We say the tree ‘seeks’ the light and the air.

We say the tree ‘follows’ its DNA and grows to specifications.

Does all life follow, or does it seek?

Either way, what or who is following or seeking?

What path was there before, or how is a path created first, in order to be found?

Is inventing a form of path to be followed, a form of seeking?

Is there a path to be found, or does the path form itself as it happens?

Do we seek to find the known, or do we follow a known path?

Do we as humans living our lives, seek or follow?

With each movement, each decision, are we seeking or following? (reacting)

And, is it possible that we, as with all things in movement, are really doing neither of these things?

Campus Consciousness Tour

Foellinger Auditorium

Photographing this show was AMAZING. Seriously. GROUPLOVE's lighting was out of this world - some of, if not THE, best lighting I've ever worked with. Saints of Valory and The Knocks also put on really fun sets, which was totally unexpected for me and made me really happy to get to photograph. The best part was that although I hadn't been cleared for a portrait shoot or interview, GROUPLOVE let me take a quick portrait of them after their show, and their guitarist gave me quite a long interview, too. I'd HIGHLY recommend checking them out, especially live. They are an absolute BLAST to watch and listen to, and put so much energy into their performance that I sometimes felt out of breath just from watching!

Consciousness is another digital creation from my bubblescape series. Great awareness is necessary as we dance our way through life, loving and supporting each other and the earth. This celebrates that realization.

Consciousness is health, self-consciousness is condition– something has failed. Some tie has actually developed, some complex. The river of awareness is not moving naturally– something international has actually gotten in into the river of awareness, something alien, something that can not be soaked up by the river, something that could not enter into the river, […]

2012. Digitally manipulated image of close-up of 3D Consciousness model and its shadow.

We know that the shadow here is created by shining a light onto the physical model. But what if the reverse was true in the case of our consciousness, and it is our consciousness which creates our physical bodies by the projection of our thoughts?
