After a while, even the dog begins to compromise with the cat. This is true friendship. Animals teach us.

This wise old owl from Sugar is wishing you a very happy Christmas Day.

I couldn't decide on a street art picture or a bird photograph, so this is the compromise.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Mercy means you expect suffering in your relationships and are willing to endure it.

Mercy means you are willing to live with the poor.

Mercy means you resist the temptation to favoritism.

Mercy means you are committed to persevere in hardship.

Mercy rejects a “personal happiness” agenda.

Mercy means you live with a commitment to forgive.

Mercy means you overlook minor offences.

Mercy does not compromise what is morally right and true.

A commitment to mercy will reveal the treasures of your heart.

This shot could have been a bit better but when shooting from a moving car you have to make do with what you sometimes get.

Thus the title. It seems to have not a bad composition. I had to crop out the left side as there was a telephone pole there.

I seem to have this knack of nailing a tree or pole dead centre of the shot.

The F word is heard quite often with this happening..

I apologize to you in advance if you are ever driving me on a countryside shoot.

Happy Fence Friday.

Wir konnten uns nicht entscheiden ob wir ins Hallenbad oder ins Freibad gehen sollen. Sind dann einfach hierher. :=

This is Rydal Water in the English Lake District.

The image is quite special to me. I took it 37 years ago, in November 1988 on a photography day trip to the lakes. It was that day that switched me on to the absolute beauty of the Lake District. I was using my first SLR, an Olympus OM10 and my favourite film of the time Ilford FP4.

In those days I was bombing around in my Ford Fiesta XR2, no sat nav or Google map and from a camera perspective, manual focus, manual wind on, a max of 36 images to a roll and all at the same ISO.

It’s one of 3 really good images I got on the same roll in the foggy November conditions. I found an old print of the scene recently which prompted me to scan the original. The negative appears fairly thin but actually, a good amount of detail has been picked up.

Im not a retouching expert but ive employed the tools I know in Adobe to make the best of the image after cloning out hundreds of dust marks and scratches. I would have loved to create a brighter image but I felt like I was compromising the mid tones too much and the grain is heavier than I would have liked. Nevertheless I feel the digital 2025 version is an improvement on the 1988 print which needed some dodging and burning.

Last week you already saw a version of this scene from the terrace bank in Dresden. This showed you the compromise I had to make when trying to fit everything interesting into one photo.

Today's version forgoes such compromises. Instead, it's focusing on the elements that really matter to tell the story.

So what were the ingredients that made this morning and therefore this sight so special? In any case, it was the floods in the river Elbe that flooded the street below the terraces, allowing the morning sky to be reflected.

But it were above all the beautiful historic buildings of Dresden's old town (Residenzschloss, Kreuzkirche and Semperoper) that were bathed in a golden light by the newly risen sun.

And that's all it takes. At least that's my opinion. You can now make up your own mind about the picture.

Sometimes less is much more, and this also (and perhaps even especially) applies to photography. And even though it sounds so simple, I sometimes find it quite difficult.

This was our annual family trip—full of compromises and a whirlwind itinerary. I knew Lake Kawaguchiko would offer some of the best photographic moments, but we had less than 24 hours to spare. The rain forecast had loomed for days, and when we arrived by train, it poured harder than I’ve seen in years.

With nowhere else to go, we checked into our hotel and wandered through nearby museums. Then, as if on cue, the clouds began to lift. I headed straight to Arakurayama Sengen Park, hoping for a glimpse of Chureito Pagoda with Mount Fuji behind it.

Just as I arrived, the sun broke through. Mount Fuji emerged through the haze, and golden light touched the pagoda’s edges. It wasn’t a perfect sky, but the atmosphere was unforgettable—quiet, fleeting, surreal. I chose to leave the wire/electrical cables visible in the photo. I had seen so many images where it had been edited out, I didn’t even know it existed until I stood there myself. Now that I’ve seen it in person, I wanted to keep it in—to remind myself and others that this detail is part of reality.

Be sure elephants will take their way! No compromise.

Freedom

Freedom will not come

Today, this year

Nor ever

Through compromise and fear.

I have as much right

As the other fellow has

To stand

On my two feet

And own the land.

I tire so of hearing people say,

Let things take their course.

Tomorrow is another day.

I do not need my freedom when I’m dead.

I cannot live on tomorrow’s bread.

Freedom

Is a strong seed

Planted

In a great need.

I live here, too.

I want my freedom

Just as you.

Since birth, when it comes to travel, I have been like a dog…just open the door and I will excitingly jump in without a care of where we are going! I have posted about this sick level of wonder lust many times. You are never too old to learn new things about yourself. I just learned that I never want to travel overseas for a month again!!!

Arriving home last night around 9:45…safely…I could have fallen to my knees and kissed the ground! Don’t get me wrong – we had a wonderful time on a once in a lifetime adventure to one of the most beautiful places on earth. We knew we had set ourselves up for a fast-paced/see as much as possible trip, and if we were going to do it, sooner was better than later. It looked aggressive on paper…I had no idea how fast paced it would be…feeling my age every step along the way! Here are a few stats from our adventure:

8182 miles flown with 10 take-offs and landings

3 rental cars with more than 3000 miles driven…on the wrong side of the road and car!!

86 miles by train traveled.

17 different hotel stays.

Countless miles walked with hills and stairs…thus I ate like a pig and only gained 3 lbs.!!!

2104 photos downloaded!

Looking back on all the variables that could have gone wrong, God blessed this trip in every way that only He could!

On a personal note: I will be receiving a new right shoulder soon to replace the “End of function” (Surgeons words) one currently attached to my body. To keep from going crazy during my recovery/rehab I am going to spend more time editing and trying to improve that skill set. The shots taken during this adventure will trickle out as completed.

Here is the first shot taken, day one shortly after arriving in London. Our hotel was a stone’s throw from the Westminster Bridge over the River Thames. Everyone will recognize Big Ben, but very few know about the white lion at the base of the bridge. He is massive (13 tons) and was the carved in 1837 as a mascot for The Lion Brewery. When the brewery was demolished in 1949, King George VI himself stepped in to save it. Pidgeon’s are great for showing scale of size!

Being an avid wildlife photographer in London, I had to settle for a statue!

One of those moments when you line up the shot then hear the ominous sound of a train horn behind you.

With 69004 on the Middleton Towers to Barnby Dunn sand train I thought this might be a good spot to catch it on the side.

The train honed into view around 15-20 minutes early when I heard the toot from the Doncaster I-Port to Felixstowe liner. The consolation of losing the side shot, was the first flat was empty allowing a passing shot.

Both trains partially hidden behind the heat haze of 66315.

Construction on the Brady Tunnel began in early 1913. The 2,468ft tunnel cut 5.36 miles off the route. Construction of the tunnel took 3 years. It is currently closed to repair the leaakage that is compromising the tunnel. At the North Portal you can go into the tunnel approximately 25 yards before the Closure Sign. To that point a steel liner has been installed.

How can it be permissible

She compromised my principle, yeah yeah

That kind of love is mythical

She's anything but typical

She's a craze you'd endorse, she's a powerful force

You're obliged to conform when there's no other course

She used to look good to me, but now I find her

Simply irresistible

Simply irresistible

Her loving is so powerful, huh

It's simply unavoidable

The trend is irreversible

The woman is invincible

She's a natural law, and she leaves me in awe

She deserves the applause, I surrender because

She used to look good to me, but now I find her

Simply irresistible

Simply irresistible

(Simply irresistible) She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went

(Simply irresistible) She's all mine, there's no other way to go

She's unavoidable, I'm backed against the wall

She gives me feelings like I never felt before

I'm breaking promises, she's breaking every law

She used to look good to me, but now I find her

Simply irresistible

She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went

(Simply irresistible) She's all mine, there's no other way to go

Her methods are inscrutable

The proof is irrefutable, Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh

She's so completely kissable, huh

Our lives are indivisible

She's a craze you'd endorse, she's a powerful force

You're obliged to conform when there's no other course

She used to look good to me, but now I find her

Boston - Don´t Look Back

www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmU4Xyl00hY

Don't look back, ooh, a new day is breakin'

It's been too long since I felt this way

I don't mind, ooh, where I get taken

The road is callin', today is the day

I can see, it took so long just to realize

I'm much too strong not to compromise

Now I see what I am is holding me down

I'll turn it around

Oh, yes, I will

I finally see the dawn arrivin'

I see beyond the road I'm drivin'

It's a bright horizon, ooh, and I'm awaken

I see myself in a brand new way

The sun is shinin', ooh, the clouds are breakin'

'Cause I can't lose now, there's no game to play

I can tell there's no more time left to criticize

I've seen what I could not recognize

Everything in my life was leading me on

But I can be strong

Oh, yes I can

I finally see the dawn arrivin'

I see beyond the road I'm drivin'

Ooh, far away, I'm left behind, left behind

Oh, the sun is shining

And I'm on that road

Don't look back, ooh, a new day is breakin'

It's been so long since I felt this way

I don't mind, ooh, where I get taken

The road is callin', today is the day

I can see, it took so long just to realize

I'm much too strong not to compromise

Now I see what I am is holding me down

I'll turn it around

Oh, yes I will

I finally see the dawn arrivin'

I see beyond the road I'm drivin'

I'm far away and left behind

Don't look back

Don't look back

Don't look back

Don't look back

🎶 After the rain - Laura Bretan

Lyrics

After the rain, the Sun comes shining in

After the rain, all things are new again

You stand with me, in the middle of the storm

And when my strength is gone

You give me yours

The sky is so much bluer than before

After the rain

"People often mistake growth for fundamental change. They see your newly assertive attitude, your changed sense of style, or your shift in priorities, and they assume you're trying to be someone else. But this isn't always the case.

Sometimes, the person you become is the person you were always meant to be. The layers we wear – the compromises, the fears, the echoes of other people's expectations – can bury our true selves for years. It's only when life, experiences, or simply time whittles those layers away that we finally emerge.

This new-found self might seem shocking to those who only ever knew the surface version. They might wonder where "the old you" went. They might even get a little uncomfortable. Remember, their discomfort comes from their own expectations, not from any fault of yours.

It takes courage to shed the weight of who we think we "should" be, and become who we truly are. So, if the person you are today looks different than the one from yesterday, don't apologize. Don't feel the need to explain. You haven't changed – you've blossomed."

LTTQ From a book I read long time ago

Picture made in my Deep Dreams 😴

As it was so close I thought I'd try another encounter early this morning even though it wasn't certain where it may have spent the night. After 3 hrs we finally made contact around 10.30 and it was another close fly-past, however the location forced me to shoot into the sunlight so was always going to be compromised, even with compensation. I had hoped it might do a full circle around me, but no such luck today. That said, the light through the wings is a bonus.

Seems that may be the end of its residency in Cambridgeshire as last seen much further south and high, towards Bedfordshire.

In remembrance of September 11, 2001. Thank you to all those who gave their lives, health, and time to save us you are all remembered and this work is dedicated to you.

Now that we have finally ended the war in Afghanistan let's hope that we can continue living and debating rather than using violence because war never really resolves anything. We need to debate with empathy, respect, positivity, patience, compromise, trust, truth, appreciation, facing the problem head-on together, staying calm, defining the problem, and finding common areas of agreement in order to help us reach the goal of compatibility. If both sides have the will to solve the problem a solution can be found. It takes time, effort, goodwill, and resolve, and a great deal of diplomacy and love, but peace is possible, let's make peace our goal!

We need to come together as families, villages, counties, states, countries, and most importantly globally.

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy.” They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the milky way,

They stretched in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,

Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:

A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company:

I gazed—and gazed—but little thought

What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.

William Wordsworth

Nature's first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf's a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.

From June 11-13, I joined a group of Flickr photographers at Jackson Hole, WY (USA) for 3 full and I mean full days of site shooting with Jeff Clow. We experienced all weather conditions over the 3 days.

Yes...while everyone was back at the main Schwabacher Landing Reflection location for photos I took off and missed the group photo there...uuuugghhhh !!! ... those elusive ground squirrels made me do it !!! I followed the tributary north about a half mile to where it turns northwest. And here's what I captured.

I couldn't go too low for this shot because if I did I would not have captured the reflection in the pool above the little dam...so I compromised a tad.

The stone sculptures in Sno, a small village in the Kazbegi region of Georgia, are part of a remarkable art project in the Caucasus. These sculptures consist of impressive stone artworks depicting giant faces, often with a melancholic or mysterious expression. They were created by local artist Merab Piranishvili, who is renowned for his unique ability to bring faces and emotions to life in natural stone. Working primarily with local stones, he carves expressive facial features that tell stories about life, the soul, and the deep connection with nature. The sculptures symbolize the ancient wisdom of the mountain dwellers and the spirit of the past. The faces sometimes appear sad or contemplative, reflecting both the challenges and the beauty of life in the Caucasus. Fully integrated into the surrounding landscape, the sculptures stand among the mountains, hills, and rugged grasslands, blending seamlessly with their natural environment. This is what makes Piranishvili’s work so unique: he respects the natural shapes of the stones and subtly adds human characteristics without compromising their raw, natural beauty. Piranishvili often works directly in the field, selecting local stones and carving them with a hammer and chisel. He carefully considers the natural form of each stone, adapting his designs to create a result that looks organic and harmonizes with the surrounding environment.

Sno is located near the breathtaking Stepantsminda area and the imposing Mount Kazbegi. The stone sculptures are a hidden gem in this region, attracting an increasing number of art enthusiasts and travelers. The site exudes a serene, almost meditative atmosphere—perfect for those seeking something unique off the beaten path. If you ever find yourself near Kazbegi, these sculptures are well worth a visit. They offer a truly unique experience where art and nature come together in perfect harmony.

"Everyone who needs a friend

Every life that has no end

Every knee not ready to bend

Is falling, falling at your feet

I’ve come crawling, now I’m falling at your feet…

All fall down…

All the manic days

The faces that you pull

All the x-rays not under your control

The graffiti rolling down off of your tongue

And the compromise you make for someone…"

The Million Dollar Hotel soundtrack: youtu.be/mwrZD27i5iI

My girlfriend and me want to print this picture on a canvas in our living room. She likes it the most in colour. I really like in in B&W. I came up with this solution..

I've had you so many times but somehow I want more

I don't mind spendin' everyday

Out on your corner in the pourin' rain

Look for the girl with the broken smile

Ask her if she wants to stay awhile

Tap on my window, knock on my door, I

Want to make you feel beautiful

I know I tend to get so insecure

Doesn't matter anymore

It's not always rainbows and butterflies

It's compromise that moves us along yeah

My heart is full, and my door's always open

You come anytime you want yeah

I know where you hide, alone in your car

Know all of the things that make you who you are

I know that goodbye means nothing at all

Comes back and makes me catch her every time she

Falls

And she will be loved, and she will be loved

Please don't try so hard to say good-bye
