In the new church of Vallsjö - inaugurated in 1895, and built in Neo-Gothic style (really unusual in this part of the country). This church was built to replace the medieval church of Vallsjö, which was much smaller. Today the choice of place can look a bit weird, since the church is sitting at the outskirts of Sävsjö, a much larger place than Vallsjö. But when the church was built, things were different and Sävsjö just starting to grow after the railway had reached the place. So the place was chosen as a compromise between those who wanted to have it in Sävsjö, and those who wanted it next to the old church (the place now is 4 kilometres away, as the crow flies, from the old one - and a bit longer than that if you want to actually stick to a road).

Alex Pangman at her first performance in public this year. She had two lung transplants, so she is immune compromised and careful to stay healthy. She is a radio host at JazzFM and had mostly on-line concerts during the lockdowns and most of the last few years. It's a miracle that she is still singing. Last time I've seen her was in June 2022 (photo in my gallery). Her voice is unchanged even in comparison, when she had her own lungs in her 20's. It was really great to hear Alex Pangman performing live in public, and she was trilled too. The concert was billed as Kevin Ray Clark and friends and the New Orleans based trumpeter has fortunately excellent musician friends in Toronto. The whole weekend was full of great music in the old Gooderham Distillery, which became tourist attraction 20 years ago. It did not attract many Torononians in the last decade or so; let's hope this programming is a change for the better.

Alex Pangman performs a previously unrecorded & unpublished song written by singing legend Connee Boswell in the 1940s. This was finally recorded by Pangman in August 2019 in Toronto Canada with Drew Jurecka violin, & Nathan Hiltz guitar.

Sunrise is still a difficult time for me to get up, so I compromised and slept halfway through the evening, woke at 1 and began planning for my sunrise shoot. I expected some partially cloud skies, and decent light. Originally I was going to head towards a lake, setup and catch the sun as it splashed some color over the water. It wasn't to be though I saw the signs as I left my house at 5 in the morning [latter than I had originally intended too] low lying fog all around. Plans changed, evolved. I knew exactly where to go. Up to Looking Glass Rock I went with my traveling partner, and here is the result. Once again the sky is somewhat cloudless, but with the partial thermal inversion in effect, it takes this already stunning view to a new level.

In a year again compromised by lockdowns and travel restrictions, this unusually cooperative Spoonbill was my 2021 bird of the year.
Tachinid flies are hard to differentiate from all the other flies in your garden just innocently pollinating the milkweed. However, if they’re sitting still, look for hairy flies with big red eyes:
Tachinid Fly Parasitoids lay their eggs on monarch caterpillars. The maggots burrow inside the caterpillar and start eating it alive, slowly killing it.
You can typically tell your caterpillar’s been compromised when it starts to grow smaller and skinnier. Often, it will appear small if it attempts to pupate. The caterpillar often dies while forming its chrysalis. Soon after, white tachinid maggots will exit the caterpillar and repel to the cage floor, leaving long white strands of evidence hanging from the deceased caterpillar.
I've had this happen when I first started raising the Monarchs... it is disgusting to see... and for this reason, I take all the eggs I find outside indoors, where they are safe!!
Squirrel baffles are awesome as long as your bird feeders are not compromised from the air :)
I did manage to plant all forty milkweed plants yesterday, even with all of the distractions that were flitting about. However, I did not trim a single thing. Today, I shall begin with the firebush that is located just outside the living room window. I knew those branches were getting a little long and the little mischievous acrobatic entertainers would discover that the swing feeder was no longer out of reach. Still, it is quite a jump followed by a balancing act to get to the feeder. This little guy deserved his bounty.

However my concentration was shattered by a number of golf balls coming my way. The dragonflies just had to be near the 5th hole on the local golf course !! Even when I retired across a service road 10m from the green, an elderly gentleman shanked one perfectly between two palms & down the road just in front of me.

A complex time. Many levels and layers. A lot is changing right now, willingness to compromise and flexibility are the order of the day – and not complaining so much if you are rather well (I try anyway). With today's topic I came across this cardboard in search of suitable material for layering. Cardboard is also used by many homeless people to protect themselves from the cold. This time is incredibly serious for the poorest in the world – and I don't know if a good fairy really helps ...

Eine vielschichtige Zeit. Viele Ebenen und Schichten. Vieles ändert sich gerade, Kompromissbereitschaft und Flexibilität sind angesagt – und nicht so viel jammern, wenn es einem einigermaßen gut geht (Ich versuche es jedenfalls). Bei dem Thema heute kam ich auf der Suche nach geeignetem Material zum Schichten auf diese Pappe. Pappe verwenden auch viele Obdachlose, um sich vor der Kälte zu schützen. Diese Zeit ist für die Ärmsten auf dieser Welt unglaublich ernst – und ich weiß nicht, ob eine gute Fee da wirklich hilft ...

Old, old apple tree on the farm. I await these blooms every year and it is such a sight once they emerge. One of my favorite things in nature.
Bittersweet though: I am allergic to both these trees, and bees as well. Luckily nooowhere near deathly or that sort of compromising, so I just try to appreciate them the best I can. I wait for them all winter!

In my experience,nothing comes close to the eyesight of a Marsh Harrier.They are very rarely fooled by camouflage.This particular male was heading straight towards my position (camouflaged to the teeth) when he suddenly banked! I had a Heron,Cormorant and Great Egret fly right past me,none of which spotted me.Harriers also remember, so that position is now compromised.
