This capture was taken at the end of an exciting day through the Vinales Valley.
Well worth the 2 hour taxi drive to this spectacular region in Cuba.

This was my first visit to Smith Rock, so being me I naturally avoided the traditional image and went off the beaten track looking unique compositions. Unfortunately, we had a bit of a tame evening in terms of color, but I really like the mood in this image and the lovely pattern in the foreground rock.

Compositionally Challenged
Week 34 Hacks and Tricks
Two "hacks/tricks" were used during the creation of this image:
Firstly the lens cells of this tiny enlarger lens, which usually has an aperture of f/4, were removed and put into the body of a similar lens with longer focal length, which expands its wide open aperture to f/2.
Secondly the limited image circle of this (originally half-frame) lens was used in order to create a strong vignette on full frame, allowing for a very different "spotlight-like" composition, which could be done in post-processing, though I vastly prefer to see most of the final result already in-camera.
Shot with a Schneider Kreuznach "Componon 28 mm F 2 (modified)" (enlarging) lens on a Canon EOS R5.
Assignment #2/2016 for the Studio 26 group is Triangles.
Looking back over my photostream, I found that there were very few definite tringles used in my compositions. One that I did find is a shot I took of a tulip flower head (see first comment box below). I re-oriented the original shot and did a square crop to emphasise the triangular shapes.
My shot for submission for this assignment is a head shot of our new GSD rescue, Zara. The GSD head is just a triangle lovers dream - The head itself is very strongly triangular in shape, as are the ears. There is also the triangular relationship between the nose and eyes and the nose itself has a triangular shape. If you really look hard, you can even make triangular shapes within the wispy fur in front (at the base) of her ears.
I was going to put up a comparative shot with Kizzy, but she is extremely reluctant to sit and pose like Zara, so one day when she is not looking...

I love sand dunes. They're a compositional playland.
Eureka Dunes, Death Valley, CA. We were the only ones out there, and the conditions were amazing.
