A visit to the zoo may not be everybody's idea of a good day out but I just love being close to these exotic animals in the flesh. My first visit to the Zoo was back in the early 1950's with my Mam and Dad and everything, other than the elephant carrying people on it's back, were locked up in cages. Today that is all changed and the animals have space, there are none rocking back and forth and clearly their welfare is high on the priority of the Zoo. This "African Plains" area is very large, plenty of space, room to move, to run and with shelter when Irish conditions are not ideal. I love both of these species, the Zebras and the Giraffes each has it's own special appeal.

I've been taking a wee bit of down time away from laptop as I do need that wee break when spending so many hours everyday, 7 days a week (I get internet burn out...lol). Anyway I took some pictures in my garden and got some macro pictures of these two Bees? (or are they flies?). I assume they are making out but not sure, I could have got as close as I wanted as they weren't moving, too engrossed in what they were doing. I actually didn't take too many pictures as I thought they were dead when they didn't move no matter how close I got but they did fly away when I checked back a short time later. Glad they did as I don't think I could have looked at pictures of them if they were dead.

TI LASCI CONQUISTARE DAL SAPORE DEL SALE,
TI LASCI ANDARE ALLA GIOIA DELL'AMORE, TOGLIENDO LE BRIGLIE AL TUO CUORE.

Yoshiko's practicing the dark arts again, summoning some skeletal companions for Halloween. (Safety tip: Always use a magic circle when summoning. Sometimes the dead do not like being dragged back to this world.)

The F. E. Myers Pump Works in Ashland, Ohio was founded in the 1870's. They were so successful in the manufacturing of water pumps they built this building in 1885. This building also housed the Hess & Clark Factory which sold veterinarian supplies in 1893.
This is the "matching shot" to my previous post. What a difference a lens makes in the view. I saw these perched cormorants as we drove up and immediately hopped out of the car, using it as a blind. As soon as Roger opened the driver's door, they were gone.
They remind me of the three-dimensional metal wall hangings that were popular in the late '60's and early 70's.

So I think these guys were a bigger enemy force than the Nazis from my other arcs. And they're easily the most expensive. The blue camo printed body armor on the 'figs was like $3 each. And then there's all the other accessories that went along with. The main inspiration behind these guys was, as some have noted, The Arkham Knight's militia.
Now, what to do with all these expensive 'figs anyway....
An incredibly friendly conductor on CSX train M601 offers me a smile and wave from the cab door of fresh SD70MAC number 4730 at Flomaton, Alabama.

It's not too often you'll find a trio of brown and orange P&W units lately, but Thursday night's WODA was a nice exception. After merging on to track 1 at Packard, they're making every bit of E speeds over Apponaug Cove as they wrap up the last 6 or so miles on their trip to Davisville.

Hard to believe it's been 3 months since I got out and about with a camera. I made some time this weekend to take a break from my home improvement projects and go for a drive through the snow-covered Mon Valley.
Here is the area in Monongahela known as Catsburg. These are company homes of the Catsburg Mine, which ceased mining in the 1930s.
