More than 40 community organisations that are transforming disused properties and setting up enterprises in their areas, will receive a share of a £2.5 million fund.
The Scottish Government will increase its investment in the Strengthening Communities Programme (SCP) in 2016-17 by £500,000 to £2.5 million, to help communities lead economic and regeneration work in their areas.

CAMP ZAMA, Japan - Hundreds of Soldiers, Airmen, civilians and their families from the Camp Zama community kicked off Army Birthday Week with sports, games and tournaments designed to build camaraderie and esprit de corps throughout U.S. Army Japan Command. For five days dozens of units from the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force will compete in various challenges to test their cumulative strength, speed, endurance and dexterity. From team sports, golf scrambles and swim relays to bowling tournaments, relay races and free throw competitions, the Army Birthday Week events offer a variety of team competitions and individual contests that maximize appeal across the entire sports spectrum.
The “Not in My Squad” challenge offered the most unique competition appearing in this week’s lineup. Nine representatives from Camp Zama’s Army and Air Force units endured a series of physically draining events spread along a three-mile route. The teams worked together to carry five-gallon cans of water to each event where they performed various exercises comprising hundreds of pushups, situps, pullups, tire flips and kettle bell curls. The challenge concluded with a role-play scenario that tested the teams’ cumulative knowledge about how to handle a sexual harassment incident.
A unit that wins first place in a specific event earns five points, while second and third place finishes earn three and two points respectively. Every unit that participates in an event earns one point.
As of June 15, 2016, U.S. Army Aviation Battalion maintains the lead with 35 points. The 441st Military Intelligence Battalion holds second place with 29 points and Medical Department Activity-Japan pulled into third place with 27 points. U.S. Army Japan (USARJ) remains in fourth place with 23 points. Since Monday USARJ has earned third place in the soccer tournament, second place in the "Not in My Squad" challenge, and first place in the swim relay.
On Friday, June 17, all teams will convene at the Camp Zama High School sports complex to compete to foot races and cheer on their comrades in the annual tug-of-war bout and soccer match between the JGSDF’s Central Readiness Force U.S. service members stationed Camp Zama.

Weighing in at 125 pounds of taught steel and complex components, the robot created by the College of DuPage Engineering Club was the first ever from COD to participate in the 26th Annual Jerry Sanders Creative Design Competition at University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign.
In fact, College of DuPage, via the eight-member COD Engineering Club (“Team Vulcan”), is the only two-year school ever granted permission to fight for the title in this premium robotic contest. Other schools entered in this year's competition included UIUC, University of Illinois at Chicago, Valparaiso University, Northern Illinois University and the Illinois Institute of Technology.
The Team Vulcan robot is a square platform with a diameter of roughly 2 feet, 6 inches. The 125-pound machine is powered by three 24-volt batteries and moves at speeds of about 13 mph. Members of the Teanaway Community Forest Advisory Committee, took a tour of the newly designated community forest. The 50,000 acre parcel, which sits at the headwaters of the Yakima Basin watershed, is the first state-managed community forest in Washington.
The Community Forest Trust model was designed to protect working forests with a high risk of conversion that have great value to the local community. It is a tool to preserve Washington’s working forests while safeguarding natural resources.

We went over to Greek Fest in West Knoxville for the food, entertainment and seeing the Church Sanctuary. We were there for over an hour or so, This was my first time attending this festival.

This is a photograph from the annual Ardagh Moydow Glen Community Games 5KM and 10 Mile road races, 5KM fun runs, walks and challenges which were held in the heritage village of Ardagh, Co. Longford, Ireland on Saturday 29th December 2018 at 13:00. This race has grown year on year since its first running a few years ago. This year seen one of the largest overall entries in the races.

The 10 mile race takes in the local 'Ardagh Mountain' which is a 1 mile continuous climb starting at the 2.5 mile mark of the 10 mile race. There is, of course, then the reward of a long down-hill stretch after the summit. This forested hill or mountain was once a famous centre of pre-Christian religious worship and is believed to have been the home of a pre–christian diety named Midir (the God of the Underworld), and also a Prince of the "Tuatha De Dannan", the fairy people of Ireland. The hill or mountain itself is named after Brí, the daughter of Midhir and her doomed love, Leith who are reputed to be buried on the hill. The remainder of the race is challenging but fair, with some much smaller and less steep hills in the race profile. Miles 3 - 7 benefit from some downhill as the race route travels around the base of the hills. The roads are predominantly rural roads with little traffic. The 10 mile race finishes in the same finish as the 5KM race. Water stops and adequate stewarding at junctions is provided.
The 5KM race takes a loop around the heritage village of Ardagh. This allows runners, walkers and joggers of all ability to take part over a more manageable distance. Overall this is a very well organised race with accurate courses, good marshalling and traffic control and excellent after race refreshments. The 10 mile race is one of the longest road races held during the Christmas period anywhere in Ireland and has appeal to runners who want to add a longer distance race to their festive calendar of running.
The weather at this year's race was almost perfect for running. The rain managed to stay away and there was little or no breeze. Indeed conditions could be described as mild with temperatures of 11C. In 2014 there was very frosty icy weather and in 2015 participants were given a very very windy day with heavy rain at the finish of both races. The 2016 and 2017 event seen very suitable weather for road racing in late December.
Ardagh is probably County Longford's most picturesque village with many historical and architecturally important features. It is located about 6 miles from Longford town.

Yesterday, December 22 2014, saw Greater Manchester Police’s North Manchester Division hold a Christmas party for local older and vulnerable people.
The event was held at the Force’s headquarters in Newton Heath and hosted by Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy and Chief Superintendent Nick Adderley, the local police commander.
The Force’s officers and staff ran a series of events to help raise funds to run the event. Many local businesses also donated gifts and funds.
Over 120 local people attended the event; some of the guests had been victims of crime during the past year.
The Greater Manchester Police Male Voice Choir and the Force Band’s saxophone quartet played during the lunch and later PCSO Ian Chadwick led a sing-a-long.
