"Bell Communication Around the World" on the side of the ATT building at 420 S Grand in Los Angeles is by Anthony Heinsbergen, 1961. The mural is 17' high by 36' wide.
It is a representation all the available means of worldwide communication (at that time) including cable, radio, telephone and satellite and is made of coils, coin boxes, chutes, relays, capacitors and other objects used in communications. The figure holds underwater cables in one hand and a satellite transmitter in the other and the numbers are meant to designate the importance of numbers in communication systems. The map of the world was not meant to be realistic.

Day 31
taken last night, posted today...gonna catch up eventually!
I think my days are off... Day 1 should be December 31st... Which means that this posting should actually be 31? I think? ARGH!
Day 274 (v 11.0) - when told to jump, if you're going to ask how high you should also ask which direction
The conductor is counting down the distance to the highway intersection, what we think the code means: It's those two photographers again, I think they see me, hard to hide with a safety vest on. F735-17 backs to service Verallia North America.

Communication let me down,
And I'm left here, I'm left here again!’
Train friends will doubtless be familiar with the term ‘plus five’, in ordinary English it means ‘five minutes to connect between trains’. This evening I had a ‘plus five’ at Edinburgh Waverley that involved quite a sprint, the recommended time for changing trains at this station being 15 minutes due to its size and complexity.
So, where’s the connection with the song? Well, I was able to track the progress of my train in real time using the track diagrams from ‘Open Time Trains’, seeing just what the signal man sees!

I was able to follow the schedule of my train on Real Time Trains, my actual train is here:

The 3 minutes late at South Gyle was a bit of a tense moment and resulted in anxious search for the best route between platforms 1 and 2 at Edinburgh, not as easy as you might think, the map shows all!

Anyhow, some spirited running from 68006 saw us arrive right time in Edinburgh, a long sprint and we made our train home to York. Thanks to Mrs. J for her understanding and quick running on our anniversary trip! Making the 19:36 train home did come as something of a relief, the next train being at 21:00!
Picture posted, once I got my breath back, from the train home. This was certainly an occasion when communication didn’t let me down!
68006 ‘Daring’ speeds its way across the Forth Bridge with 2K14 the 18:16 Glenrothes with Thornton to Edinburgh of 1st November 2018.
Safety note: a train had just passed in the other direction, so no safety problem from there. Phone out of the window only a couple of centimetres. Image cropped, so all nice and safe all round:-)
