Our modern world today heavily depends on communication, between friends and families, between countries and within business. To feed this growing need for information and communication, people surround themselves with communication technologies. Blackberry, computers, hand phones, television and radios. But the more people use these technologies to stay in touch, the more we become addicted to them. We don’t like to leave without our blackberries or hand phones, we stare on the computers, and we watch the news for hours on end. Like me, this is especially for the younger generations than the older generations. It appears that by becoming increasingly dependent on technologies in our lives, we are slowly being ‘taken over’ by them instead. My artwork shows this gradual conquering of technologies represented by the wires and the machines. The facial features are neutral to show that it represents anyone and the facial expression is meant to look sad.

When it comes to nonverbal communication a classic example is Pingu. In the entire show not a single word is spoken, and all the communication is done via body language and sounds.
Nonverbal communication is a form of communicating through wordless visual actions, which may include the use of sounds, touch, physical environments, and most importantly body language. The idea is to speak to someone or something without the use of words. The way this is done in animation is usually through body language. This may include the use of posture, emotional expressions or mimicking a certain kind of movement with the body. For example, if there was a bouncy ball with arms and legs and you wanted to show it being upset, it would be in a certain pose. The back would be hunched, the arms and head would drop, and all movements performed would be slow and dramatic. With this the character would be shown to be unhappy without the use or words.
Nonverbal communication is also present when speaking, and isn’t specific to wordless scenarios. Speech includes nonverbal elements such as voice quality, pitch, volume and speaking style. These elements can change what the person means regardless or the words coming out of their mouth. For example ‘What are you doing?’ could be asked in both a curious way and an angry way depending on the pitch, volume and speaking style.

communication problems at my block of flats - we get these notes from strata mgmt, who are only doing their jobs. but it sounds like one tenant is upset. those prams would be heavy to carry upstairs. they don't bother me. I wonder if someone in the block called strata or if they just did an inspection?
