I bought a new planter/cup for my backyard visitors. Unfortunately, one of the black squirrels knocked over my other cup/planter and he died.......The cup must have hit him on the head and knocked him out cold..so he didn't suffer......poor thing......However, the birds and squirrels are loving the new one as you can see ;) It's been so dark, dreary and miserable this one was a sight for sore eyes............... ;)

this is my comfort zone. capturing places and moments that to others may seem too simple and ordinary to be spectacular. this was taken during a road trip from Los Angeles to Sacramento. my brother was driving and, as usual, i was constantly on the lookout for something worth capturing. i have always savored the opportunity to photograph something while whizzing by at 65 miles per hour. i find it liberating to simply click my shutter without worrying about camera settings. what matters to me is to seize that singular moment and freeze it in time. i am adding this to my "Somewhere Along the Road" series. There is something comforting in this stillness,
a boat paused in time on the frozen lake,
snow resting softly over everything,
gentling the world and softening every sound.
Behind it, the forest keeps its steady watch,
and the three red houses look so cozy and it all feels like homely.

Orson, my Maine Coon, loves to sleep on the back of the sofa. I keep old beach towels up there for him (and to protect the leather). He feels safe and secure and is such a happy and good cat.

You can climb to the summit on your own and bathe in the glory, or struggle in the shadows at the bottom with the masses but I've always thought the more rewarding is to stop half way up, under a shady tree on a warm, sunny hillside with a great friend. And stay a while to drink: drink in the peace, the beauty of this world, this life and this moment. For the beauty is in the sharing and being together: not alone, nor as a crowd. Holy Moley me oh my, I know where my comfort zone is, and this spot on this hill will do just fine!

A brief stop past Kilchurn Castle to take Effie for a brief comfort break on the 4+ hour journey north from Loch Striven. The castle looked rather dour as usual, lurking in the grey and with power lines polluting the shot. But a three shot pano makes it a little more attractive. I love this tree covered (almost) island to the right of where I'm stood. It makes a most beautiful wild camp site, except there are loads of signs to say you can't (although I'm not sure the law in Scotland says you can't, if you want to) But the landowner can shoot your dog if you let it loose.

When I was recently visiting my parents I took a look at a watercolor painting that my Dad has hanging above the chair he sits in when he's reading.
It's one that I painted when I was something like 12 years old. I think it was the second watercolor painting I attempted. The first one, as I remember was sent to my Grandmother in Minnesota, and she had it framed and hung it in her living room.
I thought, "Hmm, that ain't too bad, maybe I can sneak it into my Flickr Photostream."
The warm August sun comforts this beautiful pair. They look like they belong together. I didn’t want to cut them to display in the house so I just let them alone. Wonderful colors and shade as a pair. I thought “They’re Together” for a reason better than being displayed in my home. Gratitude and Kindness got the best of me and I let them be. Thanks for viewing my work.
