Watched the documentary The Thin Blue Line while I was snowed in last week. When I went out to take pictures Friday afternoon I SAW THE HOTEL that the main character was living in when he was picked up for shooting a police man. This case of wrongful conviction was a huge story in Dallas when I moved here due to the documentary.
Night photography in the mountains is much different than the comfort of road side, trailside, or cityscape. There are a lot of factors to keep in mind. In this case I was on an icy ledge with snow blowing. There was no tripod used for this photo (was on a few of the others, but it wasn't working well). I just rested on ice and fired away while holding the strap in case it was bumped or decided to slid away on its own.
No matter the efforts, I believe they are worth it.
Here, in this photo, storm clouds light up as they swamp the starlit sky and reflect the city ambiance. Even as this photo, the last of the night, fired away, small snowflakes were covering my camera. In a few moments, the city lights were gone, not to be found until a day later after our long climb, ski and hiker out.
