Picture jaspers exhibit combinations of patterns resulting in what appear to be scenes or images, when seen on a cut section. Such patterns include banding from flow or depositional patterns (from water or wind), as well as dendritic or color variations. While these "picture jaspers" can be found all over the world, specific colors or patterns are unique to the geographic region from which they originate.

The spectrum of colors we enjoy in Nature can be infinite. The hues, the depth and the richness in the combinations we witness don’t go unnoticed. Whether the colors are in a sunrise or a sunset, in the colorful leaves of a warm sunny Autumn day or the freshest of flowers on a Spring morning, when enjoying these colors let’s remember too that, “Softness Counts.” Softness can almost be felt within a given presentation. As I said yesterday, one never knows where these image, word and music combinations come from. But they come from somewhere. I believe too much in Synchronicity for them to be purely random.
IMAGE: Our star (Sol) is just about to set on Greens Beach in a Tasmanian Autumn. The world is just about to go into lock down (March 14, 2020). The mood is as ominous (note the origin of this word) as the very low clouds that seem to be pressing in upon the viewer. Soon the light darkens suddenly and a golden glow bathes the beach (I'll show you that one tomorrow).
MUSIC: Arvo Pärt (b. 1935) is an Estonian composer. Eastern Orthodox by faith, he is a truly innovative composer - especially for human voice - in the minimalist style. In this piece, "Spiegel im Spiegel" (Mirror in the Mirror), the cello assumes the role of the human voice. Its haunting melody is enhanced by the mirroring effect (like being in a musical hall of mirrors). I like to think of it as an Antiphonal Prayer, where the worshippers respond by repeating a line in the liturgy. The purest prayer is poetic. "Speigel im Speigel" www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZe3mXlnfNc
WORDS: The title I have chosen comes from the German philosopher Martin Heidegger (1989-1976). I won't go into the details of Heidegger's vexed life, but he was for all his faults one of the greatest philosophers since Plato. A man intimately concerned with the question of Being and how one might find hope and meaning in a world where "the gods...have left the world, the evening of the world's age has been declining toward its night."
In such a world it is the responsibility of each individual to find their way to the Light. So in poetic form Heidegger writes:
"The world's darkening never reaches to the light of Being.
We are too late for the gods and too early for Being.
Being's poem, just begun, is man.
To head toward a star - this only.
To think is to confine yourself to a single thought that one day stands still like a star in the world's sky."

Upon revisiting my photo archive of my day in Big Sur, I was surprised to find that I didn't edit many RAW files from this location! So, after the views of the ride south towards Big Sur and its big ascents...I present the iconic CA Highway-1 location, Bixby Bridge. After much climbing, one is awarded this view right around the bend as seen from a distance. I've edited all the RAW files and managed to create combinations of panoramas that I didn't have.

An iris photographed in the garden at the lodge where I stayed just outside of Zion National Park, Utah. The Cliffrose Lodge and Gardens had many small gardens filled with flowers mainly irises. There were at least ten different color combinations in the irises.

The mixed color combinations caught my eye.
Snow still falling off an on here with snow covering the ground, but pleased more signs of Spring are showing up daily. Yes!

I have shot a pano of this location with three different camera combinations over the last 6 yrs or so. Twice with DX and this one which is FX. I like this one best of the three. As an aside, I also think my experience went up concurrently.

This is one of my favorite emulsion/devleoper combinations. Ultrafine is, as the name suggests, very fine grain. PMK sort of smooshes the grain together (as opposed to Rodinal that makes the grain very, well, grainy). I find (or imagine) that the smooshie grain adds a softness to it.
This could all be imagined. The human mind is pretty amazing.

Certainly not the best of combinations, and had the conditions not been as good as they are here, this picture would have only turned out to be a record in my collection. The Beet family jubilee 45690 pilots newly painted 34067 Tangmere round the reverse curves as they approach Langwathby, the charred smokebox door is evidence of the engine not steaming very well.
Not the best of days for steam photography with the smoke being whipped off the chimney due to the strong blustery westerly wind.
Now the picture has been on a few days the smokebox door has been cleaned up in PS.
Beautiful combinations of blues and whites cast reflection on the calm, glassy lake surface.
Bridge Lake sits high in the Cariboo mountain region, hence the clouds being closer to the ground / water level.
Bridge Lake sits at an elevation of 1136 m / 3727 ft, has a surface area of 13.76 km2, and a total shoreline perimeter of 47 km (the main shoreline is 30 km / 20 mi, and the combined shoreline of the islands is 17 km). The lake has 26 scattered islands. One island is an inland refuge for the Bonaparte gulls while another is a home base for bald-headed eagles. You can catch kokanee, lake trout and rainbow.

If I had to describe many of our cats with just one word, I would say “social.” We have such a great group of “people” that mostly get along, and not just this little group in the shot. We often see many odd combinations of cats curled up together. I love that so much! This is Holly with her three grown kitties who are all with us- Nutmeg, Alfalfa, and Macadamia. For Happy Caturday - (from the phone archives! We are on travel and I don’t have any files but kitty pics on my phone! Apologies!)

I am very proud and happy with this photograph, I have had the opportunity to take it with this wonderful Halo or Magic Wheel of Arkivet which manages to give a better impression of being a great wizard (or witch, in this case). Winter comes after her, because it is on our heels, but not to worry because it only shows that spring is closer. Who knows if the spring witch will visit us again with this wonderful Wheel, luckily this has a HUD with infinite colors and combinations. Perfect Wheel to make your roleplays more interesting.

This thunderset (thunderstorm at sunset) was about 80 miles to my east as nearby scattered cumulus to my west intercepted the last sunlight of the day. Fire sky with crepuscular rays has to be one of the prettiest combinations in the sky.

Sunrises along the Blue Ridge Parkway can be pretty spectacular. The combination of fog in the valleys and clouds above can make for some unforgettable combinations. On this morning I headed to one of the overlooks that give great easterly views not far out of Blowing Rock. Not hard to get to, but a pretty nice payoff in terms of the view.
