This week has been a pretty rough RL for me as my dad passed away - my partner Steven has been amazing and friends have been fantastic at this very tough time; thank you guys for being there, to Ylva and Akira for their support. Miss you dad.

Vicars’ Close was built over 650 years ago to house the Vicars Choral and it has since been continuously inhabited by their successors. Vicars’ Close is unique; physically connected to Wells Cathedral and the most complete example of a medieval Close in the UK.
Today my morning walk led over the fields and along the pasture of the Highland cattle. I hadn't visited them in quite a while and it was lovely to see them again. They are on a huge pasture and you don't always have a chance to get really close to them but I was lucky this time.
This swallowtail appears to have had a close call at some point - in an at-rest position. At least it's still balanced! In our yard, checking out one of my wife's flower pots.

Back to familiar places and favorite subjects... Our world seems to be, once again full of uncertainties and unhappy things... like rising gas prices and looming food shortages. It's exhausting. Familiar places that I love make me happy. Staying close to home again.... it's cheaper that way!

This is a full frame shot of an encounter I had with a coyote. It was trotting directly towards me not knowing I was there behind my camera and tripod but I didn't have a clear shot until it was only a few yards away when it briefly came partially in the open allowing me only a few frames before it realized I was right in front of him, then without stopping, it quickly turned and ran off. It's not the best shot as far as composition goes with the ears and nose cut off but I never thought it would get this close! This is the only decent frame I got.
On a Saturday afternoon most shops close their doors by 4.00. The clock tells us why shoppers are hurrying away with their purchases as the low sun casts a golden glow over St John Street.
Sometimes the subject can get almost too close especially when using a 500mm prime lens. All things considered, I was pleased with this photo of the male Summer Tanager.
It's nice to be close to your subject but I've had times where they are too close. Not quite the case for this Goldeneye Drake, as I actually did crop in a little on this image.
