The cliffside Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse in Acadia National Park, located in the village of Bass Harbor within Tremont, Maine in the United States, marks the entrance to Bass Harbor on the southwestern side of Mount Desert Island. The lighthouse was built of brick in 1858 on a stone foundation, stands 56 feet above mean high water and is accessible by car off Route 102A. - www.kevin-palmer.com - It was a historic, indescribable night, with auroras seen clear down to the Caribbean. A display of this intensity needed somewhere equally epic to watch it from. It felt wrong heading south instead of north to see the northern lights. But latitude did not matter at all.
Just upstream of Alcova Reservoir in the middle of Wyoming is Fremont Canyon. The North Platte River rounds a horseshoe bend beneath towering walls. This spectacular overlook I found 4 years ago and waited until the right time to return. After hiking in, it was just like I remembered it. The night began with a widespread, bright yet diffuse glow. In every part of the sky, it was like the light of a full moon, and I hardly needed my headlamp to see.
But it wasn't until around midnight when the sky really went crazy. Within a matter of seconds pillars soared to the zenith. Colors that before only my camera could see were suddenly visible to my eyes. Overhead a spectacular pulsing, shimmering corona formed with deep red, purple, pink, and green rays. All was reflected in the calm water far below. Myself, and the millions of others who watched won't ever forget this night.
I built this as a background for my Army Ranger, but it pretty quickly became more of a large vignette than just a backdrop, so I took a nicer photo with my Soviet in Berezka.
These photos were the biggest influence for this build:
Also, if you care, what do you think of the grass?
Why is it that so many of the coolest trails on Oahu are unsanctioned? Hmm...maybe because we had to scramble up super steep, crumbly terrain with precipitous drop offs to catch this awesome view looking out toward Kaena Point.

Last Friday, we journeyed to Doniños to witness the lingering effects of Storm Karlotta. The coast greeted us with a turbulent display of nature's power: colossal waves thundered against the shore, sending spray soaring into the air. Despite the temptation to approach closer, the danger was palpable, prompting caution.
I sought to capture the ocean's fury against the backdrop of the setting sun. I froze a moment of sheer force when a massive wave crashed against the rugged coastline. Though humbled by the experience, the resulting photograph stands as a testament to nature's awe-inspiring might, even from a safer distance.
I sat here for an hour waiting for the train to come by...no train :(

We walked for two days on end. My boys need a rest, By the end of today we will have a stable camp. The rebels aren't far behind. Seems like every minute we have to hide from the speeders and X-wings pursuing us. We need to establish a small camp and defend it. I'm not dying like this.
I have so many photos from Yosemite that I have still yet to share. I really appreciate all the support I've gotten on here over the last few months and have been featured on the Explore page a couple times. I can't thank everyone enough for all the kind words I've gotten through comments and messages on here. I read all of them and any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I spent around 15 minutes focusing my attention on this Eufala Skipper this morning at the flowering plants on the south side of the swimming pool in the gated community that I live in and I managed to get a few images that I am quite pleased with.

I was visiting the flowering plants on the south side of the swimming pool in my gated community taking photos of skippers when I noticed this female bluet also checking out the flowering plants. For the last 3 years there has been a female bluet visiting these flowering plants in the fall. I have posted this image in Western Odonata in Facebook to see what the experts have to say about the ID of this bluet. My personal feeling is that it is a female Tule Bluet but I would prefer to hear from those who might have an opinion as to the ID.
