'City Giant' isn't the official English name of this insect - it is called the Hornet mimic hoverfly. But in Dutch it is called 'Stadsreus' and that translates as 'City Giant', hence my title. I spotted this insect on one of my Buddleia flowers and at first I did think it was a bee, wasp or hornet, but in fact it mimics these and the good news is that it can't sting! However, it is impressive with its length of 2.5 cm (1 inch)!

Post-processing: 5 manual blending exposures processed with CC. Some more adjustment was done by Nik software (Pro Contrast, Dark Contrast, Dfine2, Sunlight filter and Darken/lighten Center)
