cursing beggar

slumped under angels

on the cathedral portico;

city of neon glare

where clouds flare

and flicker and

drift upwards;

sputtering streetlamps

gleam in muddy pools;

city where spirits shriek,

sirens wail, sorrows

rain down and drench

the living; city

lighting itself

against the night.
