Nepal plane crash survivors describe chaos
Survivors and witnesses of a plane crash in Nepal have described the chaotic moments when the aircraft went down, killing at least 49 people.

Original caption: Today's VIS image shows part of Aram Chaos. Aram Chaos was initially formed by a large impact. Over time the crater interior was modified by several different processes, including liquid water. Located near Ares Vallis, a narrow channel links the Aram Chaos crater with Ares Vallis indicating a substantial amount of water was located in the crater. Chaos forms from erosion of the surface into mesa features. With time the valleys expand creating the jumble of hills seen in the image.

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory manages the 2001 Mars Odyssey mission for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington, D.C. The Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) was developed by Arizona State University, Tempe, in collaboration with Raytheon Santa Barbara Remote Sensing. The THEMIS investigation is led by Dr. Philip Christensen at Arizona State University. Lockheed Martin Astronautics, Denver, is the prime contractor for the Odyssey project, and developed and built the orbiter. Mission operations are conducted jointly from Lockheed Martin and from JPL, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

Taken at a construction site near Riverside California, where they were putting huge water pipes in the ground. They looked really interesting with the evening sun shining through them. It was Sunday and no one was there, but a security guard came and told me to leave when I started taking photos. Although a gate blocked vehicle access, the fence didn't extend elsewhere. It was public property next to a highway. There was no "No Trespassing" sign. The guard said if I came back he would have me arrested. I only got three photos, including this one.
I like this picture. One thing I like about it is the shadows. I know shadows aren't always the best in pictures but I think it gives this photo more chaos. Maybe I could've gotten a better angle for this shot.

It's OK. I'm impressed with the casting done in stainless steel, but that's probably not quite the point. It works well only against something that's regular.
